With each crossover moment, it is certain that Indian designers are shaping the fashion conversation across the globe.
At the India Couture Week 2025, a spectacular
moment was witnessed when Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio—a former Victoria’s Secret Angel—made her Indian runway debut. She turned showstopper for Manish Malhotra, and made everyone’s jaws dropped in in two breathtaking couture ensembles. With her debut, there has been a highlight on how global models are now crossing into Indian designer territory, which is a major sign of Indian fashion's growing international appeal.
Alessandra Ambrosio’s Debut at ICW 2025
On July 26, which was Day 4 of ICW, Ambrosio arrived at Malhotra's couture-themed finale. For her maiden look, she wore a silver saree–inspired ensemble, which had a mermaid-cut silhouette, a plunging blouse and gem-studded palla. She completed the look with diamond jewellery and minimalist hair and makeup.
In her second outfit, she looked lovely in a pearl‑encrusted lehenga, which had a strapless bustier and voluminous skirt. She finished her look with a ruby-and-diamond choker, haath-phool, and maang tikka. Take a look here:
Why International Models Are Turning East
India’s Global Fashion Footprint Is Expanding
Do you know that Manish Malhotra debuted his World Collection at Dubai Fashion Week 2025, and closed the show with top international models like Adriana Lima and Valery Kaufman? Well, such crossover builds bridges between Indian textiles and Western modeling.
Desi Glam Meets Power Dressing
Designs from Malhotra often feature traditional beadwork, brocade, and pearls and blend them with couture structure. Such looks are perfect for models comfortable in both worlds.
Global Positioning
For the India Couture Week, inviting international names as showstoppers and not just on Bollywood celebs, has been a power move. It positions Indian fashion as globally aspirational for both celebrity and fashion buyers.
Nonetheless, with Indian designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Gaurav Gupta, and Rahul Mishra showcasing their designs at international events like Paris and Milan Haute Couture Weeks, there has been a change in narrative of what Indian fashion represents.
Alessandra Ambrosio’s walk for Manish Malhotra is not just a runway moment, but a massive symbol of East-West fusion. As Indian labels continue expanding overseas, it looks like Indian fashion is going glocal, and Indian designers are shaping the conversation.
