Surely, a lot of imagination and culinary knowledge is required to experiment with dosa.
The South Indian Pancake has evolved to emerge in an array of differently
styled and mouth-watering avatars. Here is a list of five interesting takes on dosa, the foodies are digging in. Bon Appetite!
Paneer Dosa
With paneer stuffing at the heart of the wrap, this dosa variety is a nutritious choice for breakfast or snack parties. Served with a delicious bowl of chutney and sambar, the paneer filling replaces the traditional potato masala coated within the dosa.
Besides being a repertoire of protein, the paneer bhurji tastes amazing, especially when sprinkled with methi leaves on top. Gluten-free and pretty easy to prep, this dish gives you the liberty to experiment with veggies and add some without compromising the dosa flavor.
Schezwan Dosa
Finely chopped beans, carrots, capsicums, and spring onions are an integral part of the filling. Schezwan dosa is a creative take on the South Indian crepe. This fusion dosa is common in Mumbai fast-food joints and is served hot with schezwan and chili or soy sauce.
You do not need to splurge on this dosa variety since it is a quintessential street food option in many parts of India. The sheer color of the shredded veggies and the fierce taste of the sauce make this dish an absolute favorite among food aficionados.
Cheese Dosa
A crispy variation, the dosa is quite an indulgence, especially for ardent cheese lovers. Folded within the wrap, you will find chili flakes, green chilies, and coriander leaves that tweak the flavor. The best eateries generally use Ricotta cheese or Mexican fresco cheese.
Water Dosa
Colloquially known as Neer dosa, in texture, it is somewhat fluffy and lacy. The dosa pieces are supple enough to melt in the mouth. Gluten-free, it is called water dosa since the batter is somewhat diluted or watery, unlike the usual thick batter you have tasted.
Neer dosa is a pretty light dish, and you can easily munch on five to six pieces in one go. Served with veg sagu or potato curries, these can be consumed with just a bowl of coconut chutney or sweetened milk as well. Neer dosa has a few veg variations too. The batter is made from spinach, ragi, beet, and masala of cumin, coriander, and dried red chilies.
