The much-anticipated registrations for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 have officially commenced, offering a vital opportunity for aspiring pilgrims.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set the last date for online applications as May 19, 2026. The selection process has been streamlined to be fully online, eliminating the need for physical submissions. To ensure fairness and equal opportunity, the final list of pilgrims will be determined through a computerized draw of lots, meticulously designed to be both equitable and gender-balanced. Successful candidates will be notified via their registered email addresses and mobile numbers, making the entire process transparent and accessible.
Journey Routes Explained
For the 2026 Yatra, a total of 20 batches, each comprising approximately 50 pilgrims, will traverse two distinct routes. The first option is via the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, a more physically demanding expedition estimated to take around 22 days and costing approximately Rs 2.09 lakh. This route involves significant trekking stretches, testing the endurance of participants. The second route is through the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim, a comparatively easier journey of about 21 days with an estimated cost of Rs 3.31 lakh. This path includes several motorable sections, offering a less strenuous experience. Pilgrims have the flexibility to choose either one route or express a preference for both during their application.
Eligibility Essentials
To undertake this significant pilgrimage, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. The yatra is open exclusively to Indian citizens aged between 18 and 70 years as of January 1, 2026. A valid passport, with at least six months of remaining validity, is a mandatory requirement. Unfortunately, foreign nationals and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders are not eligible for this yatra. Due to the high-altitude nature of the journey, a mandatory medical screening is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims. Participants should be prepared for basic facilities, lower oxygen levels, and unpredictable weather conditions throughout the expedition.
