Service Disruption Identified
On Monday evening, April 13th, users of the Claude AI platform encountered significant difficulties accessing the service, with reports indicating a 'major
outage.' This disruption led to widespread login errors and connectivity problems, preventing many from utilizing the AI tool. Anthropic's official status page first acknowledged the issue at 9:28 pm IST (15:58 UTC), specifically noting that they were investigating elevated errors impacting user logins on Claude.ai. This acknowledgment followed a surge in user-reported problems, as tracked by DownDetector, which saw a peak in outage reports around 9:04 pm.
Impacted Tools and Resolution
The disruption affected a broad spectrum of Anthropic's offerings. DownDetector data revealed that approximately 67% of user complaints pertained to Claude Code, with 14% experiencing issues with the Claude API, and 13% struggling with the standard Claude Chat interface. Anthropic confirmed that the outage impacted claude.ai, platform.claude.com (previously console.anthropic.com), the Claude API (api.anthropic.com), Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude for Government. The company communicated that they had pinpointed the cause of the login problems for Claude.ai and Claude Code and were actively implementing a fix. Fortunately, the interruption was brief, with a significant reduction in error reports by 9:24 pm. Anthropic swiftly worked to restore full access, officially confirming the resolution of the issues affecting login errors between 15:31 and 16:19 UTC.
Recurring Outage Concerns
This recent incident marks the second significant service outage for Anthropic's Claude AI within a short period. Just the previous week, on Tuesday, April 7th, many users also experienced difficulties accessing both the popular chatbot and Claude Code. At that time, Anthropic's system status page also indicated a 'major outage' affecting the Claude website and Claude Code. Such recurring disruptions can impact user confidence and productivity, highlighting the ongoing challenges in maintaining the stability of complex AI services.
