Traditionally, reaching the Konkan from Mumbai involved a drive of 10 to 14 hours. However, this arduous journey is set to transform with the introduction of a new Ro-Pax car ferry service by M2M. Launching on March 1st, 2026, this innovative service will connect Mumbai directly to Vijaydurg, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing convenience for explorers heading to this picturesque region. This new ferry aims to make the Konkan more accessible than ever before, offering a unique blend of efficiency and scenic travel.
Seamless Travel Schedule
The M2M ferry service operates four days a week, offering a convenient schedule for travelers. Departures from Mumbai are slated for Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with the service currently available for booking until March 22nd, 2026. The journey from Mumbai to Vijaydurg is optimized to take a mere 6 hours, effectively shaving off an estimated 3 hours compared to driving to any destination within the Konkan region. Specifically, the Mumbai to Vijaydurg route on March 11th, 14th, and 21st, 2026, departs Mumbai's Ferry Wharf at 08:00 AM and arrives at Vijaydurg Port by 02:00 PM. The return journey from Vijaydurg to Mumbai on March 12th, 15th, and 22nd, 2026, leaves Vijaydurg Port at 12:00 PM, reaching Mumbai's Ferry Wharf by 06:00 PM, ensuring a smooth and predictable travel experience.
Ferry Features & Pricing
The M2M Princess Ro-Ro car ferry is designed to accommodate a substantial number of travelers and vehicles, with capacity for up to 120 vehicles and 780 passengers. It can transport a wide range of vehicles, from large buses down to bicycles. Passengers can choose from four distinct seating zones, each offering air conditioning, free seating, and access to an onboard café. Higher-tier zones provide enhanced amenities such as charging points, reclining seats, and exclusive pre-boarding lounge access at Mumbai's Ferry Wharf. The ferry also accommodates pets for an additional fee and offers wheelchair accessibility, though this is suspended during monsoon seasons due to safety concerns. Passenger pricing varies by zone, starting from Rs3000 for the Škoda Kylaq Zone, Rs5000 for the Škoda Kushaq Zone, Rs7000 for the Škoda Slavia Lounge, and Rs9000 for the premium Škoda Kodiaq Lounge. Vehicle charges are additional and depend on the make and model, ranging approximately from Rs1000 to Rs9000.
Luggage & Booking Details
Travelers can bring an ample amount of luggage, with unlimited storage capacity within their vehicles and one piece of personal luggage per passenger stowed in a dedicated compartment. Any additional luggage beyond personal items will incur charges. Booking tickets for the Vijaydurg Ro-Ro car ferry is straightforward, with options to purchase online through the official platform or directly at the dock in Vijaydurg or Mumbai on a first-come, first-served basis. It is highly recommended to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your scheduled departure to allow ample time for check-in and security procedures, as check-in counters close 30 minutes before departure. Ensure you carry a valid government-issued ID and your booking confirmation for boarding.
Ferry Wharf & Vijaydurg Port
The ferry departs from Mumbai's Ferry Wharf, also known as Bhaucha Dhakka. This bustling port is situated approximately one kilometer from the southern end of the Eastern Freeway and features an air-conditioned waiting room for passenger comfort. On the Vijaydurg side, the ferry docks at Vijaydurg Port, a location already familiar to regular ferry services. The main town of Vijaydurg is conveniently located about 1 km from the port. This strategic location provides easy access to the town's attractions and the wider Konkan region, making the ferry a truly integrated travel solution.
