Limited Operations Resume
As of March 6th, Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum (DWC) have begun to re-establish flight services, albeit on a restricted
scale. This controlled reopening prioritizes repatriation efforts, vital cargo transport, and essential travel movements. The regional geopolitical landscape continues to exert influence, leading to the suspension of numerous major flight routes across the Middle East. Consequently, passengers are strongly urged to confirm their flight status and receive direct notification from their respective airlines before embarking on any journey to the airport.
Emirates' Cautious Restart
Emirates, the prominent Dubai-based carrier, is also commencing a phased return to operations, leveraging the limited reopening of airspace. Travelers seeking information on operating flights can refer to the dedicated online portal: http://emirat.es/nowoperating. The airline is currently accommodating passengers with pre-existing bookings as a primary focus, while also opening bookings for flights that are now confirmed to operate. For those transiting through Dubai, acceptance for onward travel is contingent on their connecting flight being operational. It is imperative not to proceed to the airport without a confirmed booking for an operating flight.
Past Disruptions & Safety First
Earlier, Emirates had communicated that all scheduled flights to and from Dubai would remain suspended until 23:59 UAE time on March 7th. However, the airline initiated operations for a select number of flights, giving precedence to passengers with existing reservations and urgent travel requirements. The airline indicated plans to operate over 100 flights on specific days as part of this reduced schedule, aligning with the gradual reopening of safe air corridors by aviation authorities. Official briefings from the UAE government highlighted that since March 1st, approximately 60 repatriation flights had been facilitated, safely returning 17,498 passengers via emergency corridors, underscoring the paramount importance placed on passenger safety throughout this period.
Traveler's Essential Checklist
Dubai's airports are now accessible for operations, but with significant restrictions in place. Only a restricted volume of flights are permitted to depart and arrive, governed by stringent regulatory measures. The majority of routine commercial flights are still under suspension. Therefore, for travelers, it is crucial to verify flight status directly with their operating airline and refrain from going to the airport unless a confirmed ticket is in hand. Be prepared for potential schedule alterations or delays as the situation evolves and air corridors are progressively restored. These disruptions initially surfaced in late February due to heightened regional tensions, leading to widespread airspace closures across several Middle Eastern nations, which significantly impacted flight schedules and stranded numerous travelers.
