Waiver Eligibility Gets Narrower
The US has updated its visa interview waiver guidelines, effective September 2, 2025. This is a significant shift. These updates, part of wider immigration
changes, mean it's tougher to skip the in-person interview. Keep this in mind when planning your travel to the US, friends!
Who's Affected?
Specifically, the rules impact those seeking to renew B-1, B-2, or B1/B2 visas (for business or tourism), and some applicants for diplomatic or official visas. The changes reflect a return to stricter, pre-pandemic procedures. Remember this change, it's crucial for all Indian travelers.
Diplomats and Officials
For applicants with A-1, A-2, C-3, G-1 through G-4, NATO-1 through NATO-6, or TECRO E-1 visas, requirements are stricter. Renewals require application in their country of nationality or residence and no prior visa refusals (unless waived). The consular officer can still request an interview.
B-Visa Renewals Changes
For those renewing B-1, B-2, or B1/B2 visas, in-person interviews will be mandatory for most applicants. The February 2025 update, which previously allowed waivers for renewals within 12 months, is revised. This is very important for everyone.
