How Much Time?
Whether you have a long weekend or a full two-week vacation, Corfu promises a rewarding stay. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is perfect for
a short visit. Explore its beautiful alleyways, squares, and museums, and enjoy local food and nightlife. For longer stays, Corfu's nature and beaches offer various activities, from relaxation to adventure.
Best Time to Visit
Corfu's Mediterranean climate makes it a year-round destination. Easter is a special time for a unique cultural experience, marked by church bells, pot-throwing, and the music of numerous philharmonic orchestras. The high season, from June to September, is hot and busy. Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and lower prices. Winter can be rainy, but it provides a chance to experience the island authentically, with local interactions and unique Carnival celebrations in February resembling those of Venice, attracting large crowds.
Getting Around Corfu
Corfu has an international airport, Ioannis Kapodistrias, with regular flights from Athens. During the tourist season, chartered flights make it one of the busiest in Greece. Daily ferries connect Corfu with Igoumenitsa on the mainland and, in summer, with Italian cities. Public transport is excellent, with city and intercity buses reaching remote areas, especially during peak months. Taxis offer a more comfortable but expensive alternative. Renting a car is the best way to explore Corfu.
Top Things to Do
Must-see attractions include strolling the kantounia (alleys) of the Old Town, enjoying coffee and kumquat liqueur along the Liston, and visiting the Achilleion Palace and Old Fortress. Nature lovers can hike the more than 200 km Corfu Trail, which crosses the island. Explore Corfu's stunning 217 km coastline, from sandy beaches to hidden coves. Visit beaches near Palaiokastritsa, Benitses, Sidari, Porto Timoni, Agios Georgios Pagon, and Ipsos. Don't miss the Canal d'amour, a sandstone fjord with a tiny beach, where couples are said to stay in love forever.
