Expired Food Uncovered
In Jaipur, Rajasthan, food safety officials made a significant discovery of nearly 150,000 kilograms (150 tonnes) of expired packaged food items, including
noodles, sauces, and mayonnaise. These items were found at various storage and distribution facilities during targeted inspections. Disturbingly, authorities also found advanced equipment believed to be used for altering or erasing expiration dates on these products, indicating a deliberate attempt to reintroduce them into the market. This operation, part of a nationwide initiative by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), aims to combat widespread food safety violations. The seized expired products were subsequently destroyed under strict supervision, preventing them from reaching unsuspecting consumers. Investigations are ongoing to identify all individuals involved in this organized operation and to determine the duration of its illicit activities. Selling or distributing expired food constitutes a severe breach of food safety regulations and can lead to serious health complications.
Adulterated Paneer Seized
Concurrently, in Jharkhand, a major inspection in Dhanbad led to the interception of a bus carrying a substantial consignment of suspected adulterated food products. Approximately 1,450 kilograms of paneer and 90 litres of oil were seized, with initial on-site tests confirming the presence of starch in the paneer. This adulteration renders the product unfit for consumption and poses potential health risks, especially for vulnerable groups like children and those with dietary sensitivities. The entire consignment was marked for immediate destruction to prevent its entry into local markets. Food safety officials in Jharkhand have vowed to take stringent action against all parties responsible for the transportation and distribution of these substandard and counterfeit food items, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring the integrity of the food supply chain.
