Unprecedented Bloom of Visitors
Asia's largest Tulip Garden, situated in the picturesque Kashmir Valley, has experienced an astonishing influx of visitors since its inauguration on March
16, 2026. Within a mere fortnight of opening its gates, the garden welcomed an impressive 1.4 lakh individuals. This remarkable footfall underscores its rapid ascent as a must-see spring attraction, drawing crowds eager to immerse themselves in a vibrant floral spectacle. The early success signals a promising revival for tourism in the region, with the garden serving as a significant draw for both domestic and international travellers seeking natural beauty and serene landscapes.
A Kaleidoscope of Tulips
The sprawling garden boasts an awe-inspiring collection of approximately 1.8 million tulips, meticulously cultivated across 70 to 75 distinct varieties. This horticultural marvel, officially opened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has transformed the landscape into a breathtaking tapestry of colours. By March 27, the garden had already registered a cumulative visitor count of 140,000, reflecting an average daily attendance ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 people. This diverse audience comprises a mix of local residents, national tourists, and international visitors, all drawn by the garden's unparalleled beauty and the promise of a memorable springtime experience against the backdrop of the majestic Zabarwan Range and the serene Dal Lake.
Strategic Early Opening
In anticipation of the immense public interest and to capitalize on the peak blooming season, authorities made a strategic decision to advance the garden's opening by two weeks. This proactive measure, shifting the usual early April commencement to mid-March, has proven instrumental in driving significant tourist inflow. Visitors have flocked to witness the vibrant blooms, enhanced by the garden's prime location. The early opening not only allowed more people to experience the tulips in their full glory but also provided a much-needed boost to the local economy and tourism sector, positioning Kashmir as a prime destination for spring travel.
Tourism Revival Efforts
Imran Ahmad, the in-charge of the Tulip Garden, expressed his satisfaction with the early success, stating that the objective of making the spring season a major tourist attraction and fostering tourism revival has been largely achieved. During Ramadan, the garden consistently saw between 4,000 to 5,000 daily visitors, predominantly domestic tourists. Post-Eid, this number surged dramatically to 10,000 to 12,000 visitors per day, with locals forming a substantial part of the crowd alongside an increasing number of tourists. The emergence of international visitors further bolsters these encouraging figures, with expectations for an even higher footfall in April.
A Visual Masterpiece
Visitors have consistently described the Tulip Garden as a "visual masterpiece" and "heaven on earth," drawing comparisons to Europe's renowned floral displays, particularly its terraced landscapes. The presence of rare tulip varieties, specially imported from the Netherlands, alongside hyacinths and daffodils, significantly elevates the garden's allure. This captivating combination makes it an ideal location for photography enthusiasts, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset, offering unparalleled scenic beauty and a serene atmosphere for capturing memorable moments amidst nature's finest artistry.
Visitor Testimonials
The enchanting beauty of the garden has left a lasting impression on its visitors. Avinash Mishra from Varanasi shared his surprise and delight, stating, "I had heard about this place and came here first after reaching Kashmir. The beauty is beyond what I expected; it truly surprised me." Similarly, Harshita mentioned her timely visit on March 18, expressing amazement that the flowers remained vibrant. "We came on March 18, thinking the flowers might fade in a few days, but they are still vibrant. People should come and see this themselves; it’s truly beautiful," she remarked, echoing the sentiments of many who have experienced the garden's spectacular display.
Dedication and Recognition
The creation and maintenance of this magnificent garden are the result of months of dedicated effort by hundreds of gardeners who worked tirelessly for nearly six months to ensure its readiness for the season. This commitment to horticultural excellence has not gone unnoticed. The Tulip Garden has earned recognition from the World Book of Records (London) as Asia's largest tulip garden, a testament to its scale and magnificence. Its continued success plays a crucial role in bolstering tourism and promoting the natural splendor of the Kashmir region on a global scale.
