A New Chapter
Following its successful debut in May 2025, Mona Singh's hospitality venture, Kona Kona, has unveiled its second establishment in Marol, Andheri East.
This latest addition spans an impressive 2,000 square feet and is designed to accommodate close to 100 patrons. The core philosophy remains unchanged from its initial opening: to cultivate a bar environment centered on comfort, a sense of familiarity, and an atmosphere that naturally encourages guests to return. Rather than striving for a high-concept design, Kona Kona positions itself as a genuine neighborhood bar. Its strategic placement in Andheri East caters to a dynamic locale that seamlessly blends bustling workdays with vibrant evenings, making it an ideal setting for this expansion. This new outlet aims to embody the same approachable charm and inviting ambiance that has quickly made the original a beloved spot.
Relaxed Ambiance Defined
The interior of the Marol outlet intentionally mirrors the laid-back, unpretentious character established by its predecessor. An inviting palette of warm colors, thoughtfully arranged comfortable seating, and an uncluttered layout coalesce to foster an environment where guests feel encouraged to linger, rather than feeling rushed. This is precisely the kind of setting that transitions effortlessly from casual weekday lunches to lively evening gatherings. The design prioritizes a sense of coziness and ease over dramatic visual statements. Mona Singh herself emphasized this vision, stating, "When we opened Kona Kona, our objective was never to create a 'destination' bar; it was to craft a place that people could revisit without a second thought. Andheri East felt like the perfect neighborhood for this next phase. The intention remains precisely the same. We have discovered our 'Kona' here; it's the identical food, the same beverages, the very same feeling, simply existing in a new everyday setting."
Comfort Food Delights
The culinary offerings at Kona Kona are deeply rooted in the concept of comfort, with new additions thoughtfully curated to satisfy weekday lunch appetites and cherished cravings. Among the latest introductions are dishes like Lasooni Palak Khichdi, Makhani Paneer, and Lasooni Palak Paneer, alongside enduringly popular Sindhi and Punjabi curries. For those seeking convenient and satisfying midday meals, options such as Khow Suey and Veg Pulao are presented as straightforward, fulfilling bowls. Beloved classics like Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken continue to be featured staples. The menu also explores regional flavors through selections like Lasooni Palak Chicken or Mutton, Hyderabadi Green Masala, Goan Fish Curry, and Shorshe Malai, all expertly served with rice. The dessert selection leans heavily into nostalgia, offering comforting treats such as Angoori Sandesh Kulfi.
Signature Drink Creations
The beverage menu at Kona Kona is crafted to offer enjoyable and approachable flavors, each with a distinct personality. The Bombay Sour is a highlight, featuring a harmonious blend of whisky, orange juice, vegan foam, and a finishing red wine float. Another intriguing concoction is the Rum Maro Rum, which combines white rum, sweet coconut syrup, white wine, and a rich dark rum topper. For patrons with a preference for a bit of heat, the Kill Bill presents an exciting mix of tequila, spicy jalapeno brine, refreshing pineapple, and aromatic coriander. These cocktails are intentionally designed to be easy to reorder and enjoy, rather than being complex experiments, aligning perfectly with the bar's accessible and comforting ethos.
Original Charm Persists
When Kona Kona first opened its doors in Andheri West in May 2025, it quickly established itself as an all-day neighborhood bar that prioritized nostalgia and a sense of comfort over fleeting trends or flashy aesthetics. The space, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating, was meticulously designed to feel instantly familiar and lived-in, successfully blending cozy nooks with soft, relaxed lighting. Its menu was thoughtfully anchored in flavors and culinary formats that evoked cherished memories of childhood meals and delightful street-side discoveries, including items like crispy TP Nimki and Darjeeling-style jhol momos. Even the outdoor area was made pet-friendly, further reinforcing the original location's easy-going, 'come-as-you-are' philosophy. With its recent Marol expansion, Kona Kona steadfastly avoids pursuing novelty or spectacle, instead offering a consistent experience: uncomplicated and satisfying food and drinks served in an inviting space that encourages guests to extend their stay.
