Regional Cheese Varieties
India boasts an impressive array of indigenous cheeses, each with its distinct flavor and preparation method. Kalari, often dubbed the 'Mozzarella of Kashmir,' is a testament to the centuries-old culinary practices of the Gujjar Bakarwal community. In the northeastern regions like Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as Ladakh, Chhurpi made from yak milk is a staple, known for its unique texture and taste. Maharashtra and Gujarat feature Topli Nu Paneer, also recognized as Surti cheese, which offers another distinct regional profile. These cheeses exemplify the 'local to global' philosophy, demonstrating that Indian dairy traditions can offer new and exciting experiences to palates worldwide, forging new connections through authentic flavors.
Award-Winning Cheeses
Among the celebrated Indian entries at the championship, Eleftheria Gulmarg, a Brie-style cheese, secured the coveted Super Gold medal, a remarkable achievement that highlights its exceptional quality and taste. Further strengthening India's impressive performance, Yak Churpi-Soft from Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, and Eleftheria Brunost, a whey cheese, were both awarded gold medals. Adding to the collection, Eleftheria Kaali Miri, crafted in a style reminiscent of Belper Knolle, received a Silver medal.
