Unsanitary Production Exposed
Amidst the scorching Hyderabad summer, a critical food safety operation brought to light a disturbing manufacturing process. Authorities, acting on intelligence,
raided the 'Aliya Ice Cream Parlour' in Mehdipatnam. The owner, identified as Syed Musharafuddin, was apprehended for allegedly producing and distributing ice candies and lassi under deplorable conditions. The investigation revealed the use of harmful chemicals and substandard ingredients, all driven by a motive for illicit financial gain. The scale of the operation was substantial, with significant quantities of ready-to-sell products and raw materials discovered, alongside a range of machinery used in the contaminated process. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential health risks associated with unchecked food production, especially during peak demand seasons.
Massive Stock Confiscated
The raid yielded an alarming haul of tainted products and supplies. Officials confiscated an immense stock of ice candies and lassi, amounting to 92 packets of ice candies, with each packet containing 180 pieces, and 20 packets of lassi candies, each holding 210 pieces. Furthermore, approximately 300 glasses filled with lassi were also recovered from the premises. Beyond the finished goods, the seized materials included substantial quantities of raw ingredients such as 15 buckets of curd, each weighing around 10 kg, 50 kg of sugar, 8 kg of citric acid, and 500 grams of sucrose. The parlour was also found to be using popular flavourings like mango, orange, and blueberry to mask the poor quality of its offerings. The total estimated value of the confiscated items reached a significant Rs 5.44 lakh, underscoring the extent of this illegal operation and the potential reach of these unsafe products across the city.
Machinery and Hygiene Breach
The operation also involved the seizure of all manufacturing and packing machinery, highlighting the industrial scale of the illicit activity. Equipment taken into custody included one ice candy-making machine, one lassi-making machine, three packing machines, two hand-packing machines, and a dedicated machine for packing lassi glasses. In addition, six refrigerators used for storage and numerous packing covers were also confiscated. Disturbing images and videos captured during the raid vividly illustrated the unsanitary environment. Ingredients were found placed directly on the floor, showcasing a blatant disregard for basic hygiene standards. ADCP, Task Force A Srinivas Rao, emphasized that the products were manufactured using harmful chemicals and supplied across the city, deceiving innocent consumers for profit. A case has been registered under sections related to the sale of unsafe food, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of distribution and any potential accomplices.
