Ad-Hoc Flights Take Over
On April 4, 2026, Air India and Air India Express are implementing a significant shift in their West Asia flight schedules. A total of 42 flights are planned
to and from the region, but a substantial portion, specifically 26 of these services, will be non-scheduled, or ad-hoc, flights. This adjustment is a measure to maintain connectivity during a period of disruption affecting regular flight operations on several key regional routes. The airline has stated that these ad-hoc services will proceed contingent on available flight slots and favorable operating conditions for departures. This means that while connectivity is being maintained, the regularity travelers might expect from scheduled flights will be temporarily suspended for many routes.
UAE Routes Highly Affected
The United Arab Emirates remains a central focus in the revised flight plan, even with the transition to special flights. Notably, major UAE destinations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah will exclusively see ad-hoc flights operating throughout April 4th, with no scheduled services available for the entire day. For instance, the Delhi to Dubai route will be served by special Air India flights, while Air India Express will operate dedicated flights connecting Delhi and Abu Dhabi. Ras Al Khaimah will maintain links to India through various cities including Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangalore, and Mumbai. Sharjah, likewise, will be connected to India via cities like Kochi, Kozhikode, and Lucknow. However, it's important to note that flights to Al Ain will be completely suspended on this date, a departure from its previous service from Amritsar, Kannur, and Tiruchirappalli.
Limited International Operations
Beyond the UAE, Air India's West Asia operations on April 4th will be quite limited, though some flights will continue. In Oman, Air India Express is still offering scheduled flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Muscat. Connectivity will also be maintained to Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. However, several other destinations will experience a complete absence of scheduled flight operations for the day. These include Salalah, Dammam, Bahrain, Doha, Kuwait, and Tel Aviv. These cancellations signify a focused approach to managing operations during this transitional period, prioritizing certain routes while suspending others.
Long-Haul Flights Unchanged
Despite the significant alterations to West Asia operations, travelers heading to more distant destinations can rest assured that long-haul flights remain unaffected. Services to Europe, North America, Australia, and other global regions will continue as per their regular schedules. This means that for passengers with bookings to these extensive routes, there will be no disruption to their travel plans. The focus of the adjustments is strictly confined to specific regional operations within West Asia, ensuring that broader international connectivity remains robust and reliable.
Passenger Support Measures
Recognizing the inconvenience caused by these temporary flight changes, the Air India Group has implemented several passenger-centric measures. For travelers whose flights are canceled or altered, the airline is offering flexibility. Passengers can rebook their tickets for any future travel dates without incurring additional charges or opt for a full refund of their ticket cost. To manage these changes, it is advised that travelers book or cancel their tickets exclusively through the airline's official website. Furthermore, the airlines are proactively contacting affected passengers via their registered mobile numbers to inform them of the changes and encourage timely updates to their contact details. For Air India Express passengers needing assistance, the digital assistant Tia is available on WhatsApp to guide them through rescheduling bookings or exploring alternative travel arrangements.
