Airlines Restart Operations
As airspace gradually reopens, key United Arab Emirates based airlines have initiated a return to limited flight operations on March 12. This development
offers a glimmer of hope for travelers impacted by recent disruptions. Carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, Flydubai, and Air Arabia are now providing passengers with crucial rebooking and refund opportunities. The decision to resume services comes after a period of significant adjustments to flight schedules due to regional airspace issues. Travelers are strongly advised to verify their flight status directly with their chosen airline before making any travel plans or heading to the airport. The paramount concern remains passenger safety, and airlines are committed to maintaining high standards while adapting to the evolving situation and the easing of airspace restrictions. This phased resumption aims to bring normalcy back to air travel for those connecting through or departing from the UAE.
Emirates' Reduced Schedule
Emirates has recommenced flights, albeit on a significantly reduced schedule, following the partial reopening of regional airspace. The airline is enabling passengers to view available destinations and secure new bookings via its official website. It's imperative for travelers to confirm their bookings before proceeding to the airport. For transit passengers, acceptance in Dubai is contingent upon their onward flights being operational. Emirates strongly encourages passengers to monitor their email and the airline's website for the latest updates concerning their flight status, any schedule modifications, or outright cancellations. To assist those affected by the disruptions, Emirates has introduced flexible booking arrangements. Passengers with bookings made between February 28 and March 31 have the option to reschedule their travel to any date on or before April 30. Alternatively, those who prefer not to travel can submit refund requests through the airline's designated refund portal or by contacting their travel agents. Additionally, city check-in facilities in Dubai are temporarily suspended until further notice as the situation continues to be assessed.
Etihad's Updated Schedule
Etihad Airways has published an updated flight schedule that will be in effect until March 15. The airline assures passengers with existing reservations that they will be accommodated on available flights as swiftly as possible. New ticket purchases are accessible through the airline's website. It is highly recommended that travelers verify their flight status and manage their bookings online prior to their airport visit. Only those holding confirmed bookings or who have received direct communication from the airline should present themselves at the airport. Etihad has also implemented flexible travel policies. Tickets issued on or before February 28, with original travel dates up to March 21, can be rebooked at no extra charge for travel on flights operating until May 15. Passengers can also request refunds for flights scheduled until March 21 through the airline's online portal or their travel agents. The airline has issued a warning about fraudulent social media accounts impersonating official channels and distributing fake refund forms, emphasizing that Etihad will never ask for passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information via social media.
Flydubai Resumes Flights
Flydubai has also resumed its flight operations, operating on a reduced schedule as airspace restrictions are gradually being eased. Passengers whose original bookings fall within the period of February 28 to March 31 are eligible to rebook their flights to an alternative date within 30 days without incurring any additional fees. The airline strongly advises passengers to only travel to the airport if they possess a confirmed booking or a rebooked flight. It's important for travelers to be aware that they might experience extended flight durations and transit times due to temporary flight path adjustments implemented to circumvent restricted airspace. Flight bookings and management services are conveniently available through Flydubai's website, mobile application, contact center, travel shops, and authorized travel agents. The airline has noted that its contact center is currently experiencing a high volume of calls, which may lead to longer wait times.
Air Arabia's Limited Flights
Air Arabia has recommenced limited flight operations from its primary hubs located in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah, provided that all necessary regulatory approvals are secured. Currently, the airline is operating flights to a selection of destinations spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. These destinations include, but are not limited to, Vienna, Milan-Bergamo, Athens, Istanbul, Trabzon, Amman, Dammam, Riyadh, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Entebbe, Dhaka, Chittagong, Kathmandu, Colombo, Bangkok, and Almaty, along with other locations across Asia. Air Arabia has introduced a range of options for passengers who have been affected by flight disruptions. These options include the ability to change flight dates free of charge within a 30-day window, the issuance of a full credit voucher redeemable for a future ticket, or a complete refund to the original method of payment. Passengers are urged to ensure their contact information is up-to-date in their reservations and to consistently check the airline's official channels for any updates.
