A Fresh Fusion Idea
Avocado toast has become a global favorite, gracing brunch menus and home kitchens alike. This summer, a culinary creator named Aishwarya Sane (@eatwithaishwarya)
shared an innovative way to elevate this popular dish, infusing it with the seasonal joy of mangoes. The result is a unique combination where the rich creaminess of avocado harmonizes beautifully with the distinct floral and honeyed notes of ripe Alphonso mangoes. This fusion moves beyond the typical dessert role for mangoes, positioning them as a star savory ingredient alongside other vibrant elements like finely diced onion, sweet tomato, and zesty jalapeños. The interplay of these ingredients creates a complex flavor experience that is simultaneously sweet, spicy, creamy, and crisp, offering a refreshing departure from the ordinary. This dish is perfectly suited for warm mornings or as a light, colorful meal when you crave something quick and invigorating.
Crafting Your Mango Avocado Delight
To create this delectable dish, begin by selecting a ripe but still firm Alphonso mango and a half of a perfectly ripe avocado. Finely dice about three-quarters of the mango flesh, setting aside a small portion for garnish. Meanwhile, halve the avocado, remove the pit, and lightly mash the flesh in a bowl, ensuring some small chunks remain for delightful texture. In the same bowl, combine the mashed avocado with the finely diced mango, along with half a small red or white onion and half a small tomato, both meticulously seeded and finely diced. Add 4-5 seeded and finely chopped jalapeño slices to introduce a pleasant heat, adjusting the quantity to your preferred spice level. Incorporate your choice of 1 tablespoon of red chilli flakes or finely chopped fresh green chillies, season with about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and finish with the juice of half a lemon. Gently mix all the components together to allow the flavors to meld, taking care not to create a smooth puree. This careful blending ensures a wonderful contrast of textures and tastes. It's essential to taste and adjust the seasoning, lemon juice, or chilli intensity as needed to achieve your desired flavor balance.
Assembling & Serving Perfection
The foundation of this delightful creation is well-toasted bread. Opt for thick slices of sourdough, multigrain, or rye, toasting them until they are golden brown and satisfyingly crisp at the edges. For an added layer of flavor and a richer finish, you can lightly brush the bread with olive oil or butter before toasting. Once the bread is perfectly toasted, generously spoon the vibrant mango-avocado mixture onto each slice, pressing it down lightly to ensure it adheres while maintaining a rustic, appealing presentation. To elevate the visual appeal and add another burst of flavor, sprinkle the reserved diced mango cubes over the top. If you desire an extra kick of heat, add a few more chilli flakes. Finally, a generous scattering of freshly chopped coriander (cilantro) adds a fresh, aromatic finish that truly brightens the dish. Serve this exquisite mango-avocado toast immediately to enjoy the contrast between the warm, crisp toast and the cool, flavorful topping. It pairs wonderfully with a chilled herbal tea, a cup of coffee, or a refreshing citrusy sparkling water. For a more substantial meal, consider topping it with a perfectly fried or poached egg. Alternatively, for a different serving style, spoon the mixture into a shallow bowl and present it with sturdy tortilla or papad chips for a delightful dipping experience.
