Island Icons Adorned
The striking outline of Mount Otemanu, a defining feature of Bora Bora's skyline, has been artfully translated into a captivating design featured on a pair
of swim trunks. This artistic endeavor is part of a special collaboration celebrating the 20th anniversary of The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. Beyond swimwear, the limited-edition range, unveiled in June, also includes elegant women's swimsuits, a stylish baseball cap, and chic beach bags. The entire collection draws its visual inspiration directly from the island's essence, incorporating motifs like Mount Otemanu, the intricate patterns of coral reefs, graceful sea turtles, the fragrant Tahitian gardenia, and even Moana, the resort's resident Napoleon fish. These elements are all rendered in the distinctive, vibrant prints that have been a hallmark of the Vilebrequin brand since its inception in Saint-Tropez in 1971, offering a unique way to wear the spirit of Bora Bora.
Crafting the Narrative
Developing designs inspired by such a globally recognized landscape necessitated a thoughtful approach. The CEO of Vilebrequin highlighted that the brand's swimwear is celebrated for its intricate and colorful patterns. Utilizing the iconic Mount Otemanu as the central design element, the collection seamlessly integrated other symbolic features, such as the Tahitian gardenia, sea turtles, and the resort's signature overwater bungalows. Together, these components were woven into a narrative that vividly tells the story of Bora Bora. Storytelling has always been fundamental to Vilebrequin's identity, built around a philosophy of beach life that harmoniously blends color, craftsmanship, and a distinctive carefree attitude reminiscent of the French Riviera. Adapting this sensibility to the South Pacific involved deeply embracing Bora Bora's rich natural environment and aquatic wonders, which provided an ideal canvas to express these themes through their distinctive prints.
Milestone and Marine Life
For The St. Regis Bora Bora, this collaboration marks a significant milestone as it commemorates two decades of operation. The resort, established in 2006 on a sprawling 44-acre private island, played a pivotal role in cementing Bora Bora's reputation for luxurious overwater villas – an architectural innovation that originated in French Polynesia and has since influenced tropical destinations worldwide. The resort's villas, starting at an impressive 1,550 square feet, are recognized as some of the most spacious in the South Pacific, embodying a legacy of longevity and evolution. The capsule collection also shines a spotlight on a particularly noteworthy inhabitant: Moana, a humphead wrasse residing in the resort's protected Lagoonarium, a sanctuary housing over 150 species of fish and coral. The inclusion of this endangered species in the designs serves as a subtle yet powerful nod to the resort's broader dedication to environmental stewardship and its conservation initiatives, which actively focus on coral regeneration and marine ecosystem protection.
