Pond Restoration Initiative
The Pernem municipality has embarked on an ambitious project to breathe new life into two previously overlooked ponds, Paliem and Korgao. This revitalization
effort is a strategic move to enhance the area's appeal for tourists and provide improved recreational facilities for residents. The Paliem pond, which had suffered from neglect for over three decades, has recently seen its restoration inaugurated by Mandrem MLA Jeet Arolkar. This project, with an allocated budget of Rs 14 lakh, focuses on transforming these water bodies into tranquil havens. The objective is to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also offer modern amenities while carefully preserving the natural charm of the surroundings. Local leaders and officials have expressed optimism that these restored ponds will become significant draws for visitors, contributing positively to the region's tourism landscape and local economy.
Enhancing Tourist Appeal
The dual inauguration of the restored Paliem pond and the repair works at Korgao pond signifies a concerted push towards developing Pernem as a prime tourist destination. The initiative extends beyond just water body restoration, with plans to explore the development of the scenic Palaye plateau into another tourist hotspot by improving accessibility. The project emphasizes a holistic approach to tourism development, aiming to create attractive, serene environments that cater to both local communities, especially senior citizens, and a wider tourist base. By investing in these natural assets, the municipality seeks to create new opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and engagement, thereby fostering economic growth and creating employment within the Pernem region. The integration of modern facilities with the preservation of natural beauty is key to the success of this tourism enhancement strategy.
