Family Drug Ring Uncovered
In a significant operation targeting illicit narcotics, the Srinagar Police have apprehended three individuals from the same family, identified as a father,
his daughter, and his son. The arrests were made in Khaniyar area, following a tip-off that led to the interception of their vehicle. Authorities stated that this trio was actively engaged in distributing controlled substances, specifically targeting the youth in the downtown regions of Srinagar. The individuals, residing in Baghi Roop Singh, Miskeen Bagh, Khaniyar, are now facing serious charges related to drug trafficking. This bust represents a crucial step in the ongoing battle against narco-terrorism and the proliferation of dangerous drugs within the community, highlighting the pervasive nature of such criminal activities that infiltrate even familial structures.
Massive Heroin Seizure
The successful apprehension of the family was a direct result of a meticulously planned police action. Law enforcement officers, acting on precise intelligence, intercepted a Scorpio vehicle bearing the registration number JK01 AW 8898. A comprehensive search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a substantial quantity of heroin, a highly addictive and illegal narcotic. The estimated value of the seized contraband runs into crores of rupees, underscoring the scale of the operation. In addition to the drugs, the vehicle itself, believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of illegal activities, was also confiscated by the authorities. This substantial seizure marks a major victory for the police in disrupting drug supply lines and removing dangerous substances from circulation.
Network and Assets Probed
Following the arrests and seizure, preliminary investigations have revealed that the apprehended family members were not only involved in the direct sale of drugs but also actively supplying them across Srinagar. It is understood that their illicit drug trade generated significant illegal profits, which are now under scrutiny. The police are particularly interested in tracing the complete supply chain, identifying both the sources of the drugs and the network of buyers they served. Furthermore, investigative sources indicate that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was purchased using funds derived from the drug trade. A comprehensive financial investigation has been initiated to identify and potentially seize other properties and assets allegedly acquired through these illegal earnings, aiming to dismantle their financial infrastructure.
Legal Action and Public Appeal
An FIR, numbered 08/2026, has been officially registered at Police Station Khaniyar under Sections 8/21–29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, formally initiating legal proceedings against the accused. The investigation is continuing with a focus on uncovering the full extent of their connections, including identifying both suppliers and potential buyers involved in their drug network. Superintendent of Police Showkat Dar emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and urged the public to actively cooperate by sharing any information related to narcotics. He stressed that public support is invaluable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police's efforts to combat narco-terrorism and achieve the goal of a drug-free Union Territory.
