Hygiene Takes Center Stage
A recent passenger's journey aboard the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has brought significant attention to its onboard meal service, with hygiene standards
being a major highlight. The traveler shared their positive experience on social media, complete with a video, which underscored the cleanliness maintained during food preparation and distribution. This focus on sanitation is a welcome development, especially given the historical variability in passenger perceptions of food quality and hygiene on Indian Railways. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, designed for a modern and comfortable overnight travel experience, appears to be successfully meeting passenger expectations in this critical area. The traveler's specific praise for the hygiene levels serves as a powerful endorsement, particularly relevant in today's public health-conscious environment. The viral video provides a clear visual of the dining process, showcasing meticulously packed meals and a spotlessly clean serving environment, which are vital elements in fostering passenger trust and elevating the overall journey.
A New Standard in Dining
The meal service on the new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is drawing comparisons to the high standards typically found on airline flights, according to travel vlogger Aditya Yadav. In a video shared on Instagram, Yadav documented a railway employee distributing meals within his compartment. The employee was noted for adhering to strict hygiene protocols, wearing a uniform, a single glove, a hairnet, and a mask. The meals themselves were presented in sealed boxes, distributed from a large, enclosed, and notably clean trolley. The overall condition of the train compartment also impressed, appearing neat and free from the litter often seen on other trains, suggesting a more pleasant travel future. This meticulous attention to detail in both the staff's presentation and the environment contributes significantly to a positive passenger perception of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express's catering.
Culinary Expansion Unveiled
Beyond hygiene, Indian Railways is also enhancing the culinary offerings on its Vande Bharat trains, with a pilot program introduced in January to serve local cuisines. This initiative initially covered six routes, including Nagpur-Secunderabad and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Srinagar, with plans for a wider rollout across the entire network. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, which operates between Howrah and Kamakhya, is part of this culinary experiment, offering regional Bengali dishes. Passengers on the up journey can enjoy options like ghee rice, basanti pulao, green peas pulao, and paratha, complemented by dals such as cholar dal and bhaja moong dal. Non-vegetarian choices include Bengali chicken curry and murgh rogini. For the down journey, the menu shifts to jeera rice, jeera corn pulao, and tehdar paratha, alongside mixed dal and vegetable preparations like lesera aloo bhaji. Assamese-style chicken masala and chicken curry are featured for non-veg eaters, demonstrating a commitment to diverse and local flavors.
