Unveiling the Route
Mumbai Metro Line 4, known as the Green Line, is a significant elevated project spanning 32.32 kilometers, designed to connect the city's heart on the island
to the bustling district of Thane. This ambitious infrastructure aims to alleviate the immense traffic burden currently faced by the Central Railway line and major roadways like LBS Marg and the Eastern Express Highway. The primary maintenance and stabling yard for this line is strategically located at Mogharpada in Thane, ensuring smooth operations and upkeep. With 32 stations planned along its main corridor, the line promises a faster and more reliable transit option for millions of daily commuters, fundamentally reshaping urban mobility in the eastern suburbs and beyond.
Station Lineup Revealed
The extensive network of Mumbai Metro Line 4 will feature 32 stations, offering connectivity from Wadala to Kasarvadavali. The listed stations are: Bhakti Park Metro, Wadala TT, Anik Nagar Bus Depot, Suman Nagar, Siddharth Colony, Amar Mahal Junction, Garodia Nagar, Pant Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Shreyas Cinema, Godrej Company, Vikhroli Metro, Surya Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Naval Housing, Kanjurmarg West, Bhandup West, Shangrila, Sonapur, Mulund Fire Station, Mulund Naka, Teen Haath Naka, RTO Thane, Mahapalika Marg, Cadbury Junction, Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikuji-Ni-Wadi, Dongripada, Kasarvadavali. The line also includes extensions: Gowniwada (4A) and Gaimukh (4A), further enhancing its reach.
Extension Details & Scope
Mumbai Metro Line 4 is complemented by two crucial extensions, Line 4A and Line 4B, broadening its strategic importance. Line 4A extends the Green Line for 2.88 km from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh, featuring two stations: Gowniwada and Gaimukh. Gaimukh is envisioned as a future interchange for Line 10, linking Thane to Mira Road. Line 4B, also referred to as Line 11, is a more substantial 12.7 km route planned from Wadala to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), incorporating 11 stations. While Line 4A is nearing completion and slated for an August 2026 opening, Line 4B is in the advanced planning and early works stage, with an expected opening in late 2029 or 2030, connecting key business districts with the southern tip of the city.
Real Estate Boom Ignited
The advent of Mumbai Metro Line 4 is significantly transforming the real estate landscape, particularly along LBS Marg and Ghodbunder Road. Areas offering seamless last-mile connectivity to metro stations are experiencing a surge in property value and demand. Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh in Thane have already seen property prices increase by approximately 40 percent since 2022, driven by the promise of less than an hour's commute to South Mumbai. Mulund and Bhandup, once industrial zones, are now highly sought-after residential hubs, with metro connectivity to BKC and Powai boosting demand for luxury apartments. Wadala is emerging as a transit-oriented development (TOD) hub, attracting commercial developers and seeing rental yield growth of 15-20%. Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg are also benefiting from the 'Walk to Work' culture, with proximity to metro stations becoming a major selling point for residential projects.
Project Status & Timeline
As of March 2026, approximately 70% of the overall civil work for Mumbai Metro Line 4 is complete, with most U-girders and piers along the Wadala-Thane stretch installed. The main depot at Mogharpada in Thane faced initial land acquisition challenges, which caused some delays in rolling stock testing. However, the project is targeting an August 2026 completion date. To expedite the process, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is prioritizing the Kapurbawdi-Kasarvadavali corridor for early trial runs, aiming to operationalize sections of the Thane side of the Green Line sooner. This ambitious timeline encompasses station finishing, signaling integration, and obtaining necessary CMRS safety clearances.
