Flight Operations Halted
Prepare for a temporary pause in air traffic at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on May 7th. For a six-hour period, commencing
at 11 AM and concluding at 5 PM, both the primary (09/27) and secondary (14/32) runways will be entirely closed. This means no aircraft will be permitted to land or take off during this scheduled window. Airlines have been informed well in advance of this closure and are expected to proactively adjust their flight schedules. Passengers are strongly advised to confirm the status of their respective flights with their chosen airline. It is highly probable that some flights might be rerouted through alternative destinations or face cancellation altogether. Staying updated via your airline's official app or website is paramount to avoid last-minute surprises.
Monsoon-Ready Runways
The reason behind this complete shutdown is vital pre-monsoon runway maintenance. This annual exercise is undertaken to ensure the highest standards of runway safety and to proactively minimize potential disruptions that could arise from adverse weather conditions during the upcoming monsoon season. Following the rains, a similar inspection and repair process typically occurs between October and November. During this post-monsoon period, airport teams meticulously assess and rectify any surface wear and tear that may have resulted from heavy rainfall and continuous operations, ensuring the airport's infrastructure remains robust and reliable throughout the year.
