Biogas Policy Launched
Maharashtra has officially adopted its Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy for 2026, marking a significant step towards scientific waste management and a reduction
in harmful greenhouse gas emissions. This progressive policy aims to transform waste into a valuable resource, promoting a circular economy. To ensure effective implementation across the state, a dedicated coordination committee will be established in each district. These committees will oversee the execution of biogas projects, leveraging a public-private partnership model structured around a hybrid annuity system. A substantial financial commitment of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for these CBG initiatives during the current fiscal year, underscoring the government's serious intent to drive this environmental agenda forward and make a tangible impact on waste disposal and emission control.
Education and IT Growth
In parallel with its environmental focus, the Maharashtra cabinet also greenlit significant developments in education and technology. Teachers at seven designated model colleges will now receive basic salaries that are consistent with the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This move is expected to attract and retain talented educators, thereby enhancing the quality of higher education. Furthermore, these teachers will gain an advantage in future recruitment processes conducted by the Higher and Technical Education Department, being eligible for additional marks. Beyond education, the state is boosting its technological infrastructure by approving the allocation of 42.55 hectares of land to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for the establishment of a new IT park in Satara district, signalling a commitment to economic development and job creation.
Land Tenure Reform
Another crucial decision made during the cabinet meeting involved the restructuring of premiums associated with converting land tenure. Specifically, the process of changing land from Occupant Class-2 to Class-1 status will now adhere to the state's established land holding norms. This reform aims to streamline property ownership and ensure fair and consistent application of land regulations across Maharashtra. The approval of this proposal is expected to bring greater clarity and ease to land transactions, benefiting property owners and developers alike by aligning the premium structure with current state landholding practices. This administrative adjustment is a subtle yet important component of the broader development agenda being pursued by the government.
