Uttar Pradesh's ambitious Ganga Expressway, poised to become the state's longest highway, is set to open its avenues to the public with a special introductory
offer. In a move designed to foster public engagement and allow widespread firsthand experience of this monumental infrastructure project, the state government has declared a 15-day period from its commercial operation commencement where no tolls will be levied. This significant decision ensures that citizens can traverse the expansive route without any financial burden, encouraging maximum utilization and appreciation of the modern facilities and operational efficiency. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has already issued directives to the concessionaires responsible for the project, namely IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd and Adani Infrastructure, to halt toll collection during this inaugural phase. This period is crucial for the public to gauge the expressway's quality, its impressive speed capabilities, and the various amenities available along its extensive stretch.
Boosting Connectivity & Confidence
The decision to make the Ganga Expressway toll-free for its initial 15 days serves a dual purpose: it acts as a powerful catalyst for public engagement and a strategic tool for building confidence in large-scale infrastructure endeavors. By allowing direct, cost-free access, the government aims to encourage a broad spectrum of users to experience the expressway's benefits, from enhanced travel times to improved road safety and the overall quality of the journey. This public-private partnership project, developed on a DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) toll basis, grants concessionaires toll collection rights for a period of 27 years. However, the state government or UPEIDA will shoulder the responsibility of compensating for any revenue lost during this toll-exempt period, as stipulated in their agreements.
