About the Mela
The Magh Mela is a significant Hindu religious fair that takes place annually in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Starting on Paush Purnima, the full moon day
in the month of Paush, it extends for 45 days, concluding on Mahashivaratri. The event centers around the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The 2026 event is set to draw a large crowd, with approximately 15 crore devotees expected to attend. The UPSTDC has developed a state-of-the-art tent colony, known as the Sangam Tent Colony, to accommodate the influx of pilgrims. The Magh Mela attracts devotees from all over India to take part in rituals, with the ritual dip, or snan, being a key feature of the mela's commencement. This year's mela aims to integrate faith with local economic development, providing income opportunities for local artisans and service providers.

Important Tips and Info
Advance booking is crucial due to the expected high number of pilgrims during the Magh Mela, particularly during Makar Sankranti and Mauni Amavasya, as reported by District Basic Education Officer Anil Kumar. It is advised that you check the UPSTDC website for the most up-to-date pricing information and to avoid any potential confusion. The Magh Mela is an annual event that takes place during the month of Magh (January-February), unlike the Kumbh Mela, which is held every 12 years. The Kumbh Mela is celebrated in four locations: Ujjain, Nashik, Prayagraj, and Haridwar. In contrast, the Magh Mela is exclusively held in Prayagraj. To ensure a smooth experience during your visit, always confirm the latest details and booking specifics directly through the official UPSTDC channels.
