Cleaner Air Initiative
In a significant environmental undertaking, the Chief Minister of Delhi officially commissioned 120 mist spray systems at the Indira Gandhi International
Airport. This deployment, facilitated by the GMR Group, is a proactive measure aimed at mitigating air pollution within the bustling airport vicinity, thereby ensuring a superior and healthier air quality experience for the millions of passengers who frequent this major international hub. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Delhi Government is diligently employing scientific methodologies to develop and implement both immediate and long-term strategies to confront the pervasive challenge of air pollution in the nation's capital. The presence of other dignitaries, including local MPs and government officials, underscored the importance of this collaborative effort in enhancing public well-being and the overall environmental health of Delhi.
Expanding Pollution Control
The Chief Minister highlighted the Delhi Government's extensive efforts in deploying mist spray technology across the city, noting their implementation on major thoroughfares and at 143 elevated Metro stations. Furthermore, the real-time air quality monitoring network has been substantially expanded, now encompassing 46 Metro stations, establishing it as the most extensive network of its kind in any Indian city. This robust monitoring system allows for immediate data collection and analysis, crucial for effective pollution management. The 'Vayu Rakshak' initiative is also playing a key role in ensuring strict adherence to established pollution control regulations across various sectors. These combined efforts reflect a comprehensive and integrated approach to environmental stewardship in Delhi.
Airport's Future Growth
Recognizing the Indira Gandhi International Airport as a vital gateway and a cornerstone of the National Capital Region's connectivity, the Chief Minister projected its future expansion to handle over 100 million passengers annually, potentially becoming the fifth-largest airport globally. The newly installed mist systems are poised to not only elevate the passenger experience by ensuring better air quality but also to bolster the city's environmental credentials on an international stage. Expressing gratitude to the GMR Group, she lauded their contribution as a demonstration of corporate social responsibility and a commitment to national development. This public-private partnership exemplifies how synergistic efforts between government bodies and private enterprises can accelerate developmental progress and foster a spirit of collective responsibility towards a sustainable future. The plan to escalate the mist system deployment to 600 poles signifies a continued commitment to enhancing dust control measures.
Sustainable City Vision
Looking ahead, the Delhi Government has outlined an ambitious vision for a sustainable future, including the complete electrification of its public bus fleet by 2029. This transition to electric mobility is a critical component of reducing vehicular emissions. Complementing this, plans are in motion to significantly expand the Metro network and enhance the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles across the city. To directly combat dust pollution, particularly from construction activities, over 1,000 water sprinklers will be deployed city-wide, supported by advanced AI-based monitoring systems. The Chief Minister reiterated that these multifaceted initiatives are designed not only to drastically cut down pollution levels but also to solidify Delhi's standing as one of the most liveable urban centers globally, underscoring the administration's unwavering dedication to clean air, green transportation, and sustainable growth.
