Understanding The Pet Box
The Vande Bharat sleeper trains offer a specialized 'pet box' facility, designed as a secure enclosure for your animal companions. Rather than traveling
alongside passengers, pets are housed in robust metal containers. These enclosures are strategically positioned at both extremities of the train, adjacent to the engine. The primary objective of this arrangement is to ensure the safety and well-being of pets throughout their journey, providing them with a designated and protected space away from the main passenger compartments. This facility addresses the growing trend of passengers considering their pets as integral family members and seeking convenient travel options together.
Booking Your Pet's Spot
Securing a pet box on the Vande Bharat sleeper train requires an offline approach, as online booking is not an available option. Prospective travelers must physically visit the parcel or luggage office at the railway station from which their train is scheduled to depart. It is highly recommended to arrive at the station a minimum of three hours prior to the train's scheduled departure time. This buffer allows ample time to complete all the necessary procedures, including paperwork and payment, without any last-minute rush or confusion. Arriving early ensures a smoother and less stressful experience for both you and your pet.
Eligibility & Required Documents
To utilize the pet box facility, passengers must possess confirmed train tickets. Individuals with tickets in the RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) or waitlisted categories are unfortunately not eligible to book a pet box. Therefore, it is crucial to verify the status of your train ticket before proceeding with any pet travel arrangements. When you visit the luggage office to book the pet box, ensure you have the following essential documents ready: a recent veterinary fitness certificate, issued within the 24 to 48 hours immediately preceding your travel date, and valid vaccination records for your pet. Without these documents, the booking process cannot be completed.
Costs and Pet Placement
The charges for availing the pet box facility are determined by the weight of your pet. The general rate is approximately Rs 30 per kilogram. Upon payment of the applicable charges, you will be issued a luggage ticket, which serves as official confirmation of your pet's booking. It is important to note that pets are strictly prohibited from traveling within the passenger compartments. They will be housed exclusively in the specialized metal enclosures provided by the railways, which are situated at both ends of the Vande Bharat sleeper train, ensuring their designated travel space.
Crucial Rules to Heed
Several important rules govern the use of the pet box facility. Notably, the amount paid for the pet box is non-refundable under any circumstances. This means that even if the train experiences delays or is canceled, no refund will be issued. Typically, only one pet is permitted per Passenger Name Record (PNR). Thorough planning and adherence to these regulations are vital for a successful journey with your pet. It is also prudent to confirm the availability of this facility on your specific route and train, as it may differ from other pet travel options, such as in AC first-class cabins.
