Sleek Exterior Design
The latest electric sedan makes its official debut, adopting the distinct 'Neue Klasse' design ethos from BMW. Its front fascia is characterized by a clean,
modern aesthetic with slender lighting elements and signature daytime running lights. A prominent, integrated air dam sits below, complemented by vertical gloss-black air intakes on either side, contributing to a sporty and dynamic front-end appearance, further enhanced by broad front fenders. The side profile adheres to a more conventional three-box sedan silhouette, eschewing the coupe-like styling prevalent in many electric vehicles. BMW describes this as a "2.5-box" design, featuring smooth, minimalist surfaces, flush door handles, and aesthetically pleasing alloy wheels. The rear design is both simple and sharp, with slim, individual tail lamps and subtle black detailing in the lower section. Dimensionally, this new model measures 4,760mm in length, 1,865mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,897mm.
Futuristic Cabin Experience
Stepping inside the new electric sedan reveals a cabin that feels both futuristic and uncluttered. Many interior elements are shared with the iX3, including a distinctive steering wheel and a sprawling 17.9-inch infotainment display. A notable feature is the 'Panoramic Vision' display, which extends across the dashboard and cleverly integrates the driver's instrumentation. Physical controls have been significantly minimized, with essential functions managed through the center console, which houses controls and a rotary drive selector. Key features include power-adjustable front seats, customizable ambient lighting, convenient wireless charging, Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), a sophisticated new AI assistant, and the option of a 3D head-up display for enhanced driver awareness.
Unprecedented Performance
Constructed on the advanced 800V 'Neue Klasse' platform, this electric sedan is launching with a '50 xDrive' dual-motor configuration. This powertrain generates an impressive 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque, providing exhilarating acceleration and performance. While the exact battery capacity remains unconfirmed, it is anticipated to feature a substantial 108.7 kWh pack, comparable to that in the iX3. The standout figure is its remarkable WLTP-certified range of 900 kilometers on a single charge, setting a new standard for long-distance electric travel. Complementing its extensive range is its ultra-fast charging capability, supporting 400kW DC charging, which can replenish up to 400 kilometers of range in a mere 10 minutes. For everyday use, it also accommodates 22kW AC charging.
Production and Availability
Manufacturing of this groundbreaking new electric sedan is slated to commence at BMW's Munich facility in August 2026. Following the production start, global deliveries are expected to begin later in the same year. In the Indian market, the iX3 is anticipated to be the first to arrive, with an estimated launch by early 2027. The availability of this new i3 sedan in India has yet to be confirmed, leaving prospective buyers in suspense about its potential market entry.
