A Family's New Beginning
This 1,440-square-foot, three-bedroom residence in Singapore's Casa Sarina, Eunos, was thoughtfully reimagined to suit a modern Indian family of four.
Formerly inhabited by an older couple, the apartment underwent a comprehensive overhaul, moving beyond superficial touches to fundamentally alter its spatial arrangement and boost its utility. The core objective was to cultivate a more harmonious and family-centric atmosphere. The revised floor plan ingeniously balances open communal areas with private retreats, clearly delineating zones for work, leisure, and quiet repose. Strategic selection of materials, incorporation of inviting textures, and implementation of practical storage solutions infuse daily life with both comfort and efficiency. The outcome is an abode that feels current yet deeply personal, meticulously crafted to accommodate the evolving requirements of a young family while maximizing the potential of its existing structure.
Crafting Timeless Comfort
The design philosophy embraced restraint, aiming for a dwelling that exudes calmness, enduring style, and exceptional livability, with a keen focus on simplicity and suitability for children. For the Indian family, the kitchen was a pivotal hub of daily activity. However, its original compact and enclosed configuration did not meet their lifestyle needs. A significant challenge involved enlarging this area while preserving an unhindered flow throughout the apartment. By dismantling internal utility walls and integrating that space into the kitchen, a substantial spatial expansion was achieved, resulting in a more capacious, functional, and visually airy zone for cooking and dining. A consistent warm palette of greige and brown hues pervades the entire home, establishing a unified and tranquil backdrop. This neutral foundation allows the inherent qualities of the materials and the subtle details to take prominence without overwhelming the senses. The incorporation of Shaker-style cabinetry imparts a sense of enduring style, while soft, curved forms—evident in cabinetry, wall intersections, and built-in alcoves—facilitate smoother transitions and subtly define different areas without resorting to rigid barriers. These organic curves not only enhance visual coherence but also foster a safer and more intuitive environment for the household's child and pet.
Living Room Elegance
The primary living space is curated to maximize comfort through a rich interplay of textures and warm, earthy tones. A neutral-toned sectional sofa, accessorized with rose-hued patterned cushions and a deep sage green textured throw, forms the inviting core of the room, exuding a cozy, lived-in ambiance. Abundant natural light graces the area, softened by delicate sheer drapes and substantial floor-to-ceiling curtains in a sand hue. A streamlined light-wood ceiling fan harmonizes with the warm wood flooring. A prominent wall-mounted screen is positioned above a mid-century modern slatted console finished in a deep walnut, establishing a sophisticated focal point that avoids visual clutter.
