Navigating the Online Application
To embark on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2026, the application procedure is entirely conducted online through the official portal, kmy.gov.in. Prospective pilgrims must first register themselves by creating a user account on the designated website. Prior to commencing the application, it is essential to have scanned copies of necessary documents prepared. This includes a recent photograph in JPG format, not exceeding 300 KB, and a valid passport in PDF format, up to 500 KB. During the application, you will be prompted to select your preferred travel route and your departure point, choosing from options like Delhi, Dharchula, or Gangtok. For those wishing to travel with companions, the system allows for group applications, enabling up to two registrations to be submitted under a single user account, provided they intend to join the same pilgrimage batch.
Meeting Eligibility Standards
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra enforces stringent eligibility criteria to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants undertaking the journey to high altitudes. Applicants must be Indian citizens and possess a valid ordinary Indian passport, which should remain valid for at least six months from September 1, 2026. The age requirement dictates that applicants must be between 18 and 70 years old as of January 1, 2026. A crucial health parameter is the Body Mass Index (BMI), which must not exceed 25. Certain pre-existing medical conditions can affect eligibility; individuals suffering from hypertension, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, or epilepsy are generally considered ineligible. It's important to note that foreign nationals, including those holding OCI and PIO cards, are not permitted to apply for this pilgrimage.
Understanding Yatra Costs
The financial commitment for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2026 involves several components. An initial non-refundable confirmation amount of Rs 5,000 is payable to either KMVN for the Lipulekh route or STDC for the Nathu La route. The estimated total cost for the Lipulekh route is approximately Rs 2.09 lakh, while the Nathu La route is estimated at Rs 3.31 lakh. Additional expenses include medical tests at the Delhi Heart & Lung Institute, costing around Rs 5,500, and an optional Stress Echo Test if required, priced at Rs 2,500. The Chinese visa fee is Rs 1,800, and a sum of Rs 4,000 is collected as pool money for group activities. Costs incurred within Tibet differ based on the route: for the Lipulekh route, it's approximately US$ 1,400 (around Rs 1,19,000) plus RMB 3,360 (around Rs 39,300); for the Nathu La route, it's approximately US$ 2,700 (around Rs 2,29,500) plus RMB 3,360 (around Rs 39,300).
