Harnessing Nature's Potential
Jharkhand's Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, has urged officials to develop a thorough strategy for enhancing eco-tourism across the state, recognizing its
substantial capacity to improve local economies. During a significant meeting of the Jharkhand Eco Tourism Authority (JETA), he emphasized the need to identify all prospective locations suitable for eco-tourism development. Representatives from the forest, tourism, and water resources departments were in attendance. Soren highlighted that a collaborative effort among these departments and other stakeholders is crucial for crafting an effective plan. He pointed out that the state's rich natural landscapes and resources offer vast opportunities for eco-tourism, and it's vital to ensure that local populations benefit directly through employment and active participation in conservation efforts. The Chief Minister also specifically requested that the potential for eco-tourism at major religious sites be explored, integrating spiritual tourism with nature-based experiences.
Strategic Development Sites
Officials presented preliminary plans for promoting and developing eco-tourism at several key locations, including Maithon Dam, Netarhat, Patratu Dam, Chaibasa, Dumka, and Ranchi. A notable point of discussion involved replicating the successful eco-tourism model established at Massanjore in Dumka, which has seen considerable local engagement due to its well-equipped cottages and other amenities. This successful blueprint at Massanjore, drawing good crowds, is now being considered for development at Patratu. This approach underscores a commitment to not just identify potential sites but to actively invest in infrastructure and facilities that will attract visitors and create a sustainable tourism ecosystem. The focus on these diverse locations, ranging from dams to popular hill stations, indicates a broad strategy to tap into various types of natural attractions the state has to offer.
