The primary ingredients include 3-4 cleaned and chopped drumstick pieces, a small handful of washed masoor dal, and aromatics such as one small onion, one tomato, a knob of ginger, and two to three cloves of garlic. For added fiber and texture, a few green beans can be incorporated. The seasoning blend is simple yet effective, comprising rock salt, black pepper, turmeric powder, and a pinch of red chilli powder. Begin by roughly chopping the onion, tomato, ginger, and garlic. Combine these chopped aromatics with the drumsticks and masoor dal in a pressure cooker or deep pot, along with the green beans. Add the turmeric, rock salt, and red chilli powder, then pour in sufficient water to generously cover all ingredients. Allow the mixture to simmer until the dal is tender and the drumsticks are cooked through; 2-3 whistles in a pressure cooker usually suffice. For a refined broth, you can strain the soup, or for a heartier consistency, blend the cooked dal and aromatics after removing the woody drumstick skins.
