Overall Safety Score
The Duster SUV has officially been awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP, a significant achievement for the vehicle following its reintroduction
to the Indian market. This rating signifies a high level of safety across all its available configurations. Specifically, the SUV demonstrated strong performance in key assessment areas, achieving a score of 30.49 out of a possible 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). Furthermore, it garnered an impressive 45 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. These comprehensive scores reflect the vehicle's robust construction and the effectiveness of its safety systems in protecting occupants during simulated crash scenarios, reinforcing its position as a secure option in its segment.
Adult Occupant Protection
In the critical Adult Occupant Protection tests, the Duster SUV showcased commendable safety measures. During the frontal offset evaluation, which simulates a common type of collision, the vehicle secured 14.49 out of 16 points. The assessment indicated that the driver's head, neck, and pelvis areas received 'Good' protection, while the chest and tibia (lower leg bone) were rated as 'Adequate'. For the co-driver's position, the Duster provided 'Good' safety for both the upper and lower body. The SUV also excelled in the side movable deformable barrier test, achieving a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points. Additionally, it performed adequately in the side pole impact test, further underscoring its comprehensive approach to occupant safety in various impact types.
Child Occupant Protection
The Child Occupant Protection (COP) category highlights the Duster's commitment to safeguarding younger passengers. The SUV achieved a perfect dynamic score of 24 out of 24 points, indicating excellent protection in motion-based crash simulations. It also scored a perfect 12 out of 12 points for the proper installation of Child Restraint Systems (CRS), suggesting that child seats can be securely fitted. The overall vehicle assessment score for child protection was 9 out of 13. Notably, dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child demonstrated maximum safety, both in frontal and side impact scenarios. This high level of protection is attributed to the effective use of rearward-facing ISOFIX-mounted seats equipped with support legs, ensuring children are well-restrained and shielded.
Safety Features Integrated
The Duster SUV is outfitted with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety technologies designed to prevent accidents and mitigate injuries. Standard across all variants are six airbags, providing crucial protection in the event of a collision. The inclusion of all-wheel disc brakes enhances stopping power and control, contributing to safer braking in various conditions. An electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function adds convenience and security. The vehicle also features a 360-degree camera system, complemented by front and rear parking sensors, offering enhanced situational awareness and aiding in low-speed maneuvers. Furthermore, the Duster incorporates Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which actively assist the driver with features like adaptive cruise control and emergency braking, further bolstering its safety credentials.
