Course Overview & Eligibility
The Indian Institute of Science's Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) has launched an exciting online program centered on Machine Learning for 6G wireless
communication systems. This specialized course is slated to commence on May 4, 2026, and will conclude on July 29, 2026. Live interactive sessions are scheduled twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM, making it convenient for working professionals and students. Professor Sudhan Majhi, an Associate Professor in the Department of ECE, is overseeing this initiative, which is part of the CCE Proficience Programme. This programme aims to deliver postgraduate-level instruction in specialized engineering and scientific fields. To be considered for admission, applicants must possess a Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Technology (M.Tech), or a PhD in a relevant academic domain. Additionally, students in their fourth year of BE or B.Tech programs are also encouraged to apply. A foundational understanding of wireless communication principles and basic Python programming proficiency is a prerequisite for participation.
AI, ML, and 6G Focus
This comprehensive course meticulously examines the pivotal role Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) play in shaping the physical layer of communication systems. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of adaptive transmitter and receiver designs, engineered to significantly enhance performance metrics and drastically reduce signal latency. The curriculum is meticulously crafted to align with the latest advancements in 3GPP standards, which increasingly integrate AI and ML capabilities into the research frameworks for future 6G networks. The program will cover a spectrum of learning methodologies, including supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised learning techniques. Key machine learning models such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks will be explored. Furthermore, participants will delve into advanced concepts like transfer learning and practical implementation using Python, ensuring a hands-on understanding of these powerful tools.
Technical Modules and Applications
The course delves into critical technical modules essential for modern wireless communication systems, including Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing based on Time and Frequency (OTFS). It also covers advanced topics such as Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoding for error correction, modulation classification techniques to identify signal types, and channel estimation methods to understand signal propagation. Participants will also learn about Compression Sensing techniques for Channel State Information (CSI), beamforming strategies to direct wireless signals effectively, Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) reduction to improve signal efficiency, and spectrum sensing for intelligent spectrum utilization, all explored within the context of 3GPP standards. The curriculum extends to signal estimation using AI and ML, focusing on parameter estimation, symbol rate estimation, and time/frequency offset estimation. Resource allocation, a vital aspect of network management, will also be addressed, covering topics like dynamic spectrum sharing and optimal power allocation strategies.
Program Framework and Certification
The CCE Proficience Programme is fundamentally a collaborative endeavor, fostering synergy between the Indian Institute of Science and esteemed professional institutions located in Bengaluru. The courses within this program are strategically designed to be conducted during evening hours, primarily delivered through an online synchronous mode, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for a diverse audience. To successfully complete the program, participants are required to undertake and pass examinations administered at the conclusion of the course. Upon successful completion and achievement of the required standards, participants will be awarded grading certificates, officially issued by the Indian Institute of Science. This program is specifically curated to benefit a broad spectrum of professionals, including university professors, research scholars, postgraduate students, and industry professionals who possess backgrounds in science and engineering disciplines.
