Malda–Udhna Special Service
To manage the significant upswing in passenger movement anticipated between April and July, Indian Railways has initiated special fare summer trains connecting
Malda Town and Udhna. Specifically, train numbers 09033 and 09034 will operate on a predetermined timetable for this period, promising a journey of approximately 38 hours. These services are designed to accommodate a varied passenger base by including a combination of air-conditioned, sleeper, and general class coaches. The Udhna–Malda Town Special (09033) is scheduled to depart Udhna every Thursday starting April 9th until July 23rd, completing a total of 16 trips. Its counterpart, the Malda Town–Udhna Special (09034), will depart Malda Town every Sunday from April 12th to July 26th, also conducting 16 journeys. Both services will make stops at strategically important stations, including New Farakka, Barharwa, Sahibganj, Kahalgaon, Bhagalpur, Sultanganj, Jamalpur, and Abhaipur, facilitating connectivity along the route. Booking information for these specific trains is expected to be announced imminently by the railway authorities, providing passengers with advance notice for their travel plans.
Expanded Summer Network
Beyond the Malda Town–Udhna route, Indian Railways is implementing a much larger strategy to manage the extensive summer travel demand. In total, 1,484 summer special train services are being deployed across the country for 2026. This extensive network comprises 749 reserved and 735 unreserved services, strategically placed on high-demand corridors. Key routes benefiting from these additions include long-distance connections like Mumbai–Banaras and Delhi–Katra, as well as shorter and medium-distance links such as Mumbai–Pune, Mumbai–Kolhapur, and Pune–Solapur. Furthermore, essential long-haul services from Mumbai to destinations like Gorakhpur and Ballia are being augmented to alleviate congestion and enhance passenger convenience. This comprehensive approach underscores the railways' commitment to ensuring comfortable and accessible travel during the busy summer months.
Booking and Information Access
For travelers planning to utilize these special summer services, booking procedures are straightforward. Most of these special trains can be booked through the IRCTC website, a convenient online platform, and also at designated computerised reservation centres. Passengers are strongly encouraged to stay informed about their intended journeys. It is highly recommended to check real-time updates concerning train schedules, exact routes, and the most crucial information regarding seat availability. The NTES (National Train Enquiry System) App serves as an excellent resource for obtaining this up-to-the-minute information before finalizing travel plans. This proactive approach will help in avoiding last-minute issues and ensure a smoother travel experience during the peak summer season.
