Expired Foods Found
In Jaipur, Rajasthan, a significant operation by the Food Safety Department uncovered a large volume of expired packaged food. Approximately 1.5 lakh kilograms
of items, including noodles, sauces, and mayonnaise, were confiscated from storage and distribution sites. Disturbingly, sophisticated equipment was found that appeared to be used for altering or removing expiry dates from food packaging, suggesting a deliberate attempt to reintroduce unsafe products into the market. In total, around 150 tonnes of these expired goods were seized and subsequently destroyed. Food safety officials indicated that this scale of operation pointed towards an organised effort to circumvent regulations and deceive consumers. Investigations are underway to identify all parties involved in this supply chain and to determine the duration of this illicit activity. Selling or distributing expired food is a serious offense under food safety laws and carries significant health risks.
Adulterated Paneer Seized
Simultaneously, in Jharkhand, a significant enforcement action took place in Dhanbad following specific intelligence. The state Food Safety Department intercepted a bus originating from Bihar, leading to the seizure of approximately 1,450 kilograms of paneer and 90 litres of oil, both suspected of being adulterated or of substandard quality. On-site testing of the paneer samples confirmed the presence of starch, a clear indication of adulteration, rendering it unfit for consumption. Officials stressed that such adulteration not only diminishes the nutritional value of food but also presents health hazards, particularly for vulnerable groups like children and individuals with dietary restrictions. To prevent these contaminated products from reaching consumers, the entire seized consignment was designated for destruction. Authorities have pledged to take stringent action against those responsible for the transportation and distribution of this fraudulent paneer and substandard oil.
