Coracle Rides Debut
The serene banks of the Periyar River at the Panamkuzhy Eco Tourism Centre in Perumbavoor have recently welcomed a novel tourist attraction: traditional
coracle boat rides. This exciting development aims to enrich the eco-tourism offerings in Kerala, providing visitors with an immersive and picturesque experience on the river. The launch signifies a commitment to expanding sustainable tourism options, allowing travelers to connect with nature in a more intimate and engaging way. Previously, the center focused on nature walks and safe river bathing, but the addition of coracle rides is expected to significantly enhance its appeal and draw more visitors to this natural haven. The initiative also aligns with efforts to promote responsible tourism practices, ensuring the preservation of the river's natural beauty while offering enjoyable experiences.
A Unique River Experience
Ten specially arranged, licensed coracle boats are now available for visitors at the Panamkuzhy Eco Tourism Centre. These traditional vessels are helmed by personnel who have undergone rigorous training and are certified by the National Institute of Water Sports, guaranteeing a safe and pleasant adventure for all passengers. Each excursion is designed to last approximately 30 minutes, offering a comfortable and leisurely exploration of the river. These boats are capable of carrying up to four individuals per ride, making it an ideal activity for small groups or families. The pricing structure is set at ₹600 per ride. Interestingly, guests who opt for the coracle ride will find that the standard ₹50 entry fee to the eco tourism center is waived, presenting a value-added proposition for those seeking this unique water-based activity. This thoughtful approach aims to encourage participation and provide a memorable experience without additional hidden costs.
Scenic Vistas Await
The coracle ride experience has been thoughtfully curated to offer passengers breathtaking views of Vempuram Island, a picturesque locale situated in close proximity to the eco tourism zone. This island, positioned about four kilometers from the prominent wildlife sanctuary, provides a tranquil and visually stunning backdrop for the journey. This addition complements the existing attractions, which include peaceful strolls through groves of ancient mahogany trees and dedicated areas for safe river bathing. With the introduction of these gentle river cruises, authorities anticipate a notable increase in the number of tourists visiting the center. The strategic location of the eco tourism center, situated conveniently on the route connecting the Kodanad-Kaprikkad (Abhayaranyam) Wildlife Sanctuary with Paniyeli Poru, further enhances its accessibility for travelers exploring the wider region. This makes it a perfect stopover point for those venturing between these popular natural destinations.
