Burger Foundation
These delightful black bean burgers get their signature smoky and spicy essence from chipotle peppers. The preparation is ingeniously designed for efficiency,
taking only about 12 minutes of active work and a total of 20 minutes from start to finish. To achieve a pleasing texture, most of the black beans are mashed to bind the ingredients, while a portion is left whole, ensuring each bite offers a satisfying contrast in consistency. A generous serving of plain Greek yogurt, a powerhouse of protein, is incorporated to contribute to the burgers' delightful creaminess without compromising their structure. This thoughtful combination of ingredients creates a burger that is both robust in flavor and wonderfully moist.
Crafting the Patties
To begin crafting these delicious burgers, start by draining and rinsing a 15-ounce can of low-sodium black beans, setting aside approximately one-third of the beans for later. In a medium bowl, thoroughly mash the remaining beans with the tines of a fork to create a cohesive base. To this mashed bean mixture, add 1/3 cup of plain 0% Greek yogurt, four tablespoons of chopped green onions, one tablespoon of minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, one teaspoon of garlic powder, and a quarter teaspoon of kosher salt. Stir these ingredients together until well combined. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of panko breadcrumbs, which act as a binder, and the reserved whole black beans. Divide this mixture into four equal portions, shaping each into a patty about half an inch thick. Heat one tablespoon of canola oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, swirling to coat the surface. Carefully place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for approximately 4–5 minutes per side, until they are beautifully browned and heated through. This cooking process ensures a delightful crisp exterior while keeping the inside moist and flavorful.
Avocado Salsa Delight
While the burgers are cooking, you can prepare the vibrant and refreshing avocado salsa that perfectly complements their smoky flavor. This salsa requires minimal effort and adds a burst of freshness to every bite. Take one medium avocado, peeled, pitted, and diced, and combine it in a small bowl with one medium tomato, also diced. Add two teaspoons of fresh lime juice for a zesty tang, the remaining chopped green onions for a mild oniony bite, and the remaining quarter teaspoon of kosher salt to enhance the flavors. Gently toss these ingredients together to ensure they are evenly distributed without mushing the avocado. This simple yet elegant salsa provides a cool, creamy contrast to the warm, spicy burger, creating a balanced and satisfying culinary experience. Serve the burgers immediately, generously topped with this delightful avocado salsa.
