Key Road Changes
In anticipation of the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on April 14th, Mumbai's traffic authorities are implementing significant road
regulations from 11 am on April 13th until midnight on April 14th. These measures are designed to ensure the safety and convenience of the large crowds expected at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. Several vital routes will either be designated as one-way or completely inaccessible to general vehicular traffic. Specifically, SK Bole Road will operate one-way from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction towards Portuguese Church, meaning no entry from the latter. SVS Road, spanning from Siddhivinayak Temple Junction to Yes Bank Junction, will be closed to all vehicles, though local residents can use Road No. 5 (Pandurang Naik Marg). Ranade Road is entirely shut for traffic. Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road will be closed from its intersection with SVS Road to Dadar Chowpatty. Additionally, to ease congestion around Chaityabhoomi, heavy vehicles and tempos, excluding BEST buses, will be rerouted via LJ Road from Mahim Junction, aiming to keep high-density pedestrian areas clear.
Traffic Diversions Explained
Navigating Mumbai during this period requires an understanding of the specific diversionary routes for both south-bound and north-bound traffic. For vehicles heading south from the Western Express Highway, diversions are in place from Kalanagar Junction, leading towards Sion Railway Station or via 60 ft Road Dharavi and Kumbharwada, followed by a right turn at Sion Hospital onto Dr. BA Road. Alternatively, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link offers an option to reach South Mumbai. For northbound journeys originating from Colaba or CSMT, traffic will follow P D’mello Road, Barrister Nath Pai Road, and Zakeria Bunder Road, then turn right under the Matunga Arora bridge towards Sion Hospital, or utilize the Worli-Bandra Sea Link. Vehicles traveling north from Mahalaxmi Railway Station via Dr. E. Moses Road must turn right at Rakhangi Chowk and proceed along Mahalaxmi Senapati Bapat Road. Those coming from the Eastern Express Highway towards South Mumbai should use Wadala Bridge, Barkat Ali Naka, and BPT Colony before joining the Eastern Freeway.
Parking Restrictions & Options
To maintain clear pathways and prevent obstructions, strict no-parking zones have been established along several key roads. These areas include Veer Savarkar Marg (Century Junction to Yes Bank Junction), Ranade Road, both Keluskar Road (South and North), and Dnyaneshwar Mandir Road. Vehicles found violating these regulations risk being towed or penalized. For motorists, designated parking areas have been identified to accommodate visitors. These include Senapati Bapat Road (accessible from Mahim and Dadar), India Bulls Finance Center and India Bulls Center (both Elphinstone, PPL), Kohinoor Square (Kohinoor Mill Compound, Shivaji Park, Dadar, PPL), Kamagar Stadium (Senapati Bapat Road), and Five Garden RAK 4th Road. Commuters are strongly advised to utilize these designated spots and remain vigilant, follow instructions from traffic personnel, and cooperate with the imposed restrictions for a seamless experience.
