Passenger's Alarming Experience
Ayushi Singh, traveling on the Varanasi–Deoghar Vande Bharat Express on March 27, 2026, experienced a distressing allergic reaction shortly after consuming
the lunch provided on the train. Her symptoms, which included significant facial swelling, were so severe that a consulting doctor indicated they could have been life-threatening if not promptly addressed. Singh shared photographic evidence of her condition on social media, calling for an investigation into the incident by Indian Railways. She also noted that the water served on the train tasted unusual. Adding to the concern, her two-year-old son reportedly suffered from diarrhea during the same journey, further intensifying the passenger's worries about the food's safety and quality.
Official Response & Passenger's Insistence
In response to Ayushi Singh's allegations, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) issued a statement asserting that the food served on that specific Vande Bharat train journey had been inspected and deemed satisfactory. IRCTC's official X account also stated that no other complaints regarding the quality, hygiene, or safety of food had been received on that day. Despite this assurance, Singh maintained her position, emphasizing that she and her son had consumed only the Vande Bharat meal, as they had not eaten breakfast at home due to their early morning departure. She expressed her concern that her experience, and that of her son, was being dismissed. Following her persistent claims, IRCTC requested her PNR number and contact details via direct message to investigate the matter further.
Public Reaction & Recovery
The passenger's post quickly garnered significant attention and concern from other users on social media platforms. Many users expressed empathy and wished her a speedy recovery. When asked about her current condition, Singh reported that she was recovering well, with the swelling completely subsided, although she was still undergoing medication. The incident sparked a wider conversation about food safety standards and accountability for catering services provided on Indian Railways' premium Vande Bharat services, highlighting the importance of timely and effective resolution of passenger grievances.
