As the summer vacation period kicks off, the demand for travel significantly increases, especially for popular destinations like Rameswaram, a key pilgrimage
site in South India. Recognizing this surge, railway authorities have launched a dedicated weekly special train service connecting Hubballi in Karnataka to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. This initiative aims to alleviate the pressure on regular services and provide a more accessible travel option for numerous families, devoted pilgrims, and extended-distance travellers hailing from various districts across Karnataka. The introduction of this special train is particularly beneficial for those residing in or near Hubballi, which serves as a major railway junction, offering a direct route that bypasses the need for multiple changes and potentially reduces lengthy waiting periods for confirmed tickets during this peak season. The service is set to operate throughout April and May, ensuring travellers have a reliable means to reach their destination during the busiest travel months of the year.
Route and Schedule
The special train service operates on a weekly schedule in both directions, providing a predictable travel window for passengers. For those journeying from Hubballi to Rameswaram, the train departs at 6:50 AM every Sunday, arriving at Rameswaram at 5:20 AM the following day, making it an effective overnight journey. Conversely, the return service from Rameswaram to Hubballi departs at 8:00 PM every Monday, reaching Hubballi at 7:40 PM on Tuesday. This schedule is thoughtfully designed to facilitate onward travel planning for passengers upon arrival, whether it's an early morning arrival for sightseeing or an evening arrival allowing for a full day's engagement before departing. In total, the special service will complete 9 trips across April and May, ensuring consistent availability throughout the high-demand summer months. This strategic timing and frequency aim to ensure that travellers can secure their passage without the usual challenges associated with booking during peak holiday periods.
Extensive Station Network
To ensure maximum accessibility for travellers across Karnataka, the special train makes stops at a comprehensive list of important stations along its route. The journey from Hubballi to Rameswaram includes vital halts such as Haveri, Ranebennur, Harihar, Davanagere, Chikkajajur, Birur, Arsikere, Tiptur, and Tumakuru, covering key regions in central and northern Karnataka. The route further extends through Banaswadi and Hosur before entering Tamil Nadu, where it stops at Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, and Tiruchirappalli. The final leg to Rameswaram includes stops at Pudukkottai, Karaikudi, Sivaganga, Manamadurai, and Ramanathapuram. This extensive network of stops significantly enhances connectivity, allowing passengers from numerous districts to board the train closer to their homes, thereby reducing the need for lengthy detours or additional travel arrangements to reach Hubballi. The broad reach of this service underscores the railway's commitment to facilitating convenient travel for a wider segment of the population.

Catering to diverse passenger needs and preferences, the special train is equipped with a variety of coach classes. The composition includes one AC First Class coach for ultimate luxury, two AC Two-Tier coaches and three AC Three-Tier coaches offering comfortable, air-conditioned travel. For budget-conscious travellers, there are six Sleeper Class coaches and four General Second Class coaches. Enhancing the journey experience, the train features a pantry car, ensuring that passengers have access to meals and refreshments throughout their long trip, which is especially beneficial for families and older travellers. Additionally, the train includes a generator-cum-brake van for power supply reliability and a Divyang-friendly luggage-cum-brake coach, demonstrating a commitment to passenger comfort and accessibility for all.
