Market Closed Today
On August 15, 2025, the NSE and BSE were closed for Independence Day, a national holiday in India. All trading activities, including equities and derivatives,
were halted. This included the securities lending and borrowing segment. Markets resumed operations on August 18.
Weekend Trading Halt
Trading was suspended across all segments, covering August 16 & 17. This included the weekend following the Independence Day holiday. The last trading holiday before this was on May 1, 2025, for Maharashtra Day. A total of 14 trading holidays were scheduled for 2025.
Digital Banking Available
While physical banking activities were paused, digital platforms like net banking, mobile banking, and UPI remained operational. Customers could still access services. However, cheque clearing and physical banking activities under the Negotiable Instruments Act were not processed on the holiday.
Upcoming Market Holidays
The next scheduled market holiday after Independence Day was August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi. Customers can still do banking with digital options. October 2 will see another market holiday, marking Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
