The Sacred Journey Unveiled
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has officially confirmed the schedule for the highly anticipated Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) in 2026, a spiritual
expedition undertaken in collaboration with the Chinese government. This sacred journey is slated to occur from June through August 2026, offering devotees a window to connect with this revered destination. The KMY is more than just a trek; it's a profound spiritual undertaking, deeply embedded in the religious fabric of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Mount Kailash, often described as the celestial abode of Lord Shiva, and the serene Lake Mansarovar, situated in the breathtaking landscapes of Tibet, China, together form one of Asia's most significant pilgrimage sites. Each year, countless individuals embark on this arduous yet immensely rewarding journey, seeking spiritual solace and divine connection at elevations soaring around 4,590 meters and above, demanding both physical resilience and unwavering devotion.
Choosing Your Pilgrim Path
Pilgrims embarking on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2026 have the distinct privilege of selecting from two primary trekking routes, each presenting a unique tapestry of natural beauty and spiritual encounters. The first option is the Lipulekh Pass route, commencing in Uttarakhand. This path guides travellers across the border into China, immersing them in the rugged and awe-inspiring terrains of Uttarakhand. A total of 10 batches, each comprising 50 pilgrims, will traverse this route, with departure points available from Delhi or Dharchula. Alternatively, the Nathu La Pass route offers a journey through the picturesque landscapes of Sikkim. This route facilitates entry into China via the Nathu La Pass, providing a different, yet equally captivating, scenic experience. Similar to the Lipulekh route, 10 batches of 50 pilgrims each will be accommodated on this path, with departure points accessible from Delhi or Gangtok. In total, the 2026 Yatra will facilitate 20 batches, accommodating 2000 pilgrims.
Application and Eligibility
For those aspiring to undertake the sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2026, the application process is streamlined through an online portal. Interested individuals are required to register on the official website and submit their applications digitally. The Ministry of External Affairs has announced that a total of 20 batches, with each batch consisting of 50 pilgrims, will be part of this year's Yatra, bringing the total number of participants to 2000. These batches are evenly distributed, with 10 batches designated for the Lipulekh Pass route and the remaining 10 for the Nathu La Pass route. The reopening of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra last year, following positive developments in bilateral relations, particularly the completion of troop disengagement along the border, signifies a renewed opportunity for spiritual journeys. This indicates a growing ease and accessibility for pilgrims wishing to undertake this significant pilgrimage, underscoring the importance placed on facilitating such spiritual endeavors.
