This family tradition, she explained, is far from a complex recipe, relying instead on a straightforward combination of sesame and coconut oils, a method her father long ago affirmed as remarkably effective for their skin and hair.

According to Dr. Ruben Bhasin Passi, a Consultant in Dermatology, sesame oil holds significant recognition in both historical and modern Ayurvedic practices for its extensive benefits to scalp and hair. This oil is abundant in vital components such as essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and various B-complex vitamins, along with crucial minerals like magnesium and calcium. These elements work synergistically to deeply moisturize the scalp, strengthen hair follicles, and actively promote hair growth. Furthermore, sesame oil possesses natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it an effective remedy for combating dandruff and soothing any scalp inflammation or irritation. Ahuja explains that traditionally, til thaila is revered for its profoundly transformative effects, attributed to its warming and calming influence on the body's energy channels, or nadi, and the nervous system. Ayurveda views sesame oil as the supreme oil due to its comprehensive ability to address a multitude of health aspects holistically. This includes aiding in the expulsion of harmful pathogens, bolstering the body's immune defenses, and meticulously balancing 'ojas,' which represents vital life force or energy.
