Custody Granted
In a significant development concerning the incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence, a Mumbai magistrate's court has ordered all five individuals
apprehended in connection with the case to remain in police custody. This directive extends their detention until February 11th, 2026. The court's decision underscores the gravity of the charges and the ongoing need for a thorough investigation into the criminal conspiracy believed to be behind the firing. This ruling allows law enforcement agencies to continue their efforts in unraveling the full extent of the plot and identifying any other individuals involved, ensuring a comprehensive inquiry into the events that transpired.
Arrests and Investigation
The Mumbai Police apprehended four individuals on February 1st, shortly after four shots were fired outside Rohit Shetty's home. These initial arrestees were immediately placed in police custody to facilitate immediate questioning. A fifth accused was later taken into custody on Thursday and subsequently presented before the court alongside the other four. The police investigation has revealed that a social media post claimed responsibility for the act. Furthermore, authorities highlighted the accused's use of the Signal application for communication, aiming to maintain secrecy. Investigators are actively seeking additional deleted chat logs involving Shubham Lonkar, indicating a potential network of communication and planning that needs to be fully understood.
Defense Arguments
During the court proceedings, the legal representatives for the accused presented their arguments. The lawyer for the first accused contended that their client was not physically present at the scene during the firing, asserting that the arrest was based solely on circumstantial evidence. They further argued that no established connection had been demonstrated between the accused and Shubham Lonkar. The advocate representing the three other accused individuals sought judicial custody for their clients. This plea was based on the assertion that the police had found no involvement beyond their alleged role in providing the vehicle used in the incident, suggesting a limited scope of their participation and seeking to limit their pre-trial detention.
Weapon Supplier Arrested
Adding a crucial dimension to the ongoing investigation, the Mumbai Crime Branch's Anti-Extortion Cell apprehended an additional suspect on Thursday. This latest arrest is directly linked to the firing incident outside Rohit Shetty's residence. According to police statements, the newly arrested individual, identified as Asaram Fasle alias Babu, is alleged to have supplied the firearm utilized in the shooting. This revelation points towards a more organized operation, with a clear line of responsibility for providing the weapon, which is a critical piece of evidence in understanding the full scope of the criminal conspiracy and bringing all responsible parties to justice.
