Indian Railways has proactively addressed the expected increase in travel during the summer months of 2026 by sanctioning a substantial number of special
train services. Between April 15 and July 15, 2026, a total of 908 summer special trains have been approved, collectively operating an astounding 18,262 trips. This strategic deployment is designed to effectively accommodate the heightened demand for rail travel. Significantly, out of this extensive plan, 660 trains, comprising 11,294 trips, have already been officially announced. This early notification allows passengers ample time for planning and booking their journeys, reflecting the railways' commitment to a well-organized travel experience, especially during vacation periods and peak travel seasons.
Zone-Wise Train Allocations
The operation of these summer special trains is geographically widespread, covering all major zones of Indian Railways to ensure balanced connectivity. South Central Railway is set to run 124 approved trains for 1,184 trips, with 76 already notified for 324 trips. Western Railway has approved 106 trains offering 2,078 trips, and 92 of these have been notified for 1,667 trips. North Western Railway is facilitating travel with 76 approved trains (2,245 trips) and 62 notified trains (1,878 trips). Northern Railway has 76 approved trains planned for 2,090 trips, with 56 trains (1,535 trips) already notified. Central Railway leads with a significant 74 approved trains (3,082 trips), 70 of which are notified for 2,238 trips. Southern Railway has 72 approved trains (558 trips), with 38 notified (133 trips). East Central Railway has approved 64 trains (2,711 trips), 38 notified (1,060 trips). North Central Railway is providing 54 approved trains (1,163 trips), 46 notified (688 trips). North Eastern Railway has 52 approved trains (814 trips), 34 notified (477 trips). East Coast Railway has 28 approved trains (410 trips), 18 notified (88 trips). West Central Railway is operating 28 approved trains (408 trips), 18 notified (192 trips). Eastern Railway has 24 approved trains (392 trips), 10 notified (276 trips). North Frontier Railway has 24 approved trains (220 trips), 20 notified (141 trips). South Eastern Railway has 20 approved trains (276 trips), 18 notified (250 trips). South East Central Railway has 10 approved trains (122 trips), 8 notified (70 trips). Lastly, South Western Railway has approved 76 trains (509 trips), with 56 already notified for 277 trips.
