Following its impactful participation in ITB Berlin, a premier global travel trade show, India is strategically positioning itself for a substantial increase
in inbound tourist numbers. The event served as a crucial international platform, enabling the nation to effectively present its wide array of tourism experiences to a diverse global audience. The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with numerous state tourism departments and key industry players, actively championed India as a highly desirable travel destination. Emphasis was placed on spotlighting the country's unique cultural heritage, thrilling adventure opportunities, and rejuvenating wellness retreats, aiming to capture the attention of international tour operators and travel agents. This strategic engagement is anticipated to cultivate new business relationships and significantly expand India's market reach, ultimately leading to a rise in tourist arrivals and fostering the overall expansion of the Indian tourism industry. The initiative underscores India's ambition to solidify its status as a leading global destination.
Strengthening Partnerships
India's robust engagement at ITB Berlin, marked by a dedicated country pavilion, proved instrumental in reinforcing existing collaborations and establishing the nation as a premier year-round global destination, as highlighted by the tourism ministry. The event, held at the Messe Berlin exhibition center, is recognized as a vital nexus for the international tourism community, offering an invaluable opportunity for networking and exchange among Indian travel industry representatives. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, leading an Indian delegation, actively participated and conducted essential engagements with key international figures. He emphasized Germany's critical role as a tourism partner, noting that in 2025, Germany was the 8th largest source market for India, contributing 260,000 foreign tourist arrivals. Productive bilateral discussions were held with counterparts from Indonesia and Germany, focusing on augmenting travel flows, promoting sustainable tourism, enhancing air connectivity, and deepening people-to-people ties. Further conversations with the UNWTO Secretary General explored avenues for advancing sustainable and regenerative tourism development.
Showcasing Diverse Experiences
India's prominent presence at ITB Berlin served to underscore the nation's strategic objective of boosting inbound tourism and solidifying its reputation as a top-tier global travel hotspot accessible throughout the year. This significant event provided a crucial platform for nurturing established partnerships, forging new business alliances, and introducing innovative travel routes and distinctive experiences to a global audience. The India Pavilion vibrantly showcased the country's rich tapestry of cultural and artisanal heritage through engaging activities like 'mehendi' application, block printing, and calligraphy, offering visitors an immersive glimpse into India's diverse traditions and languages. The pavilion's theme was centered on the unique and varied tourism experiences India offers, spanning spiritual and wellness tourism, destination weddings, adventure and eco-tourism, and gourmet travel. Representatives from destination management companies, hotel chains, state governments, Union Territories, and tour operators from across India actively participated to promote their latest offerings to international markets.
Digital Collaborations Unveiled
During ITB Berlin, the Union Tourism Minister unveiled two compelling short films produced in collaboration with the OTT platform Netflix, aimed at promoting India to a global viewership. One film celebrates India's vibrant culture, enduring traditions, festivals, and timeless heritage, while the other highlights the rich and diverse flavors of Indian cuisine. This partnership with Netflix, operating under the 'Incredible India' platform, is designed to curate ten promotional videos annually. These videos, inspired by popular Netflix films and series, will each focus on a distinct aspect of India, ranging from its culinary delights and festivals to its adventure offerings, wildlife, and natural beauty, thereby reflecting the nation's profound depth and diversity as perceived on screen. States and Union Territories, including Rajasthan, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Ladakh, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with IRCTC, were present to promote their specific destinations and attractions.
