Tragic Incident Unfolds
In the early hours of February 4th, Ghaziabad witnessed a harrowing event where three minor sisters, identified as Nishika (16), Prachi (14), and Pakhi
(12), tragically ended their lives by jumping from the ninth floor of their residential building. The incident occurred under the Tila Mod Police Limits in the Loni area. The girls, daughters of Chetan Kumar, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Preliminary investigations by the Ghaziabad police pointed towards the girls' involvement in an online task-based game, although no specific application was named in the suicide note found at their residence. The family was reportedly present in the house at the time of the incident but were asleep, unaware of the unfolding tragedy.
Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness, Arun Kumar, recounted the terrifying moments of the incident, stating he observed all three sisters jumping from the balcony. His testimony suggests a disturbing sequence of events, where it appeared one sister initiated the jump, and the others subsequently fell while possibly attempting to intervene or save her. Kumar described the act as sudden and abnormal, occurring around 2 am. He immediately contacted the police and ambulance services following the incident.
Cultural Fascination
A significant aspect emerging from the investigation is the sisters' deep-seated fascination with Korean culture, as detailed in an eight-page suicide note. The note repeatedly expressed their feelings of being misunderstood by their family, including their brother, regarding their "love for Korea." The girls also mentioned an affinity for China, Thailand, and Japan, and expressed distress over their inability to relocate to these countries. This cultural interest appears to have been a central theme in their motivations.
Family Dynamics and Isolation
Further details reveal a complex family background. The sisters reportedly harbored resentment towards their half-brother and had limited social interaction, having stopped attending school around 2020 and lacking neighborhood friends. Their father, Chetan Kumar, had been married multiple times, with the deceased girls belonging to different marriages. The sisters also had issues with their father’s insistence on them marrying an Indian man, which they explicitly opposed in their note, stating their preference for Korean culture. The father had allegedly confiscated the single mobile phone the sisters used for watching shows, deleted a social media account they had created and gained a large following on, and reportedly sold the device.
