Grand Opening In Sight
Kolkata is poised to welcome a significant addition to its hospitality landscape with the much-anticipated Anantara Hotel, set to grace the World Trade
Centre. This luxurious establishment is slated for its grand opening in 2032, marking a pivotal moment for the Anantara brand as it introduces its first urban flagship property within India. The development is part of a substantial Rs 2,400-crore World Trade Centre project, a collaborative venture between Aryan Realty and the Merlin Group, situated in Salt Lake. This luxury hotel, estimated to cost Rs 200 crore, will be managed by Minor Hotels, a global hospitality leader. The partnership signifies a strategic expansion for Minor Hotels, aiming to redefine the convergence of business and upscale accommodation in Eastern India and elevate Kolkata's status as a major regional hub for commerce and culture. The project underscores a commitment to enhancing the city's international business appeal and guest experience.
Anantara's Indian Debut
The upcoming Anantara Kolkata Hotel represents a landmark moment for Minor Hotels, signaling their inaugural urban Anantara property in India. This strategic move underscores the brand's adaptability, extending its renowned luxury experience beyond resort settings into vibrant city environments. William Heinecke, the visionary Founder and Chairman of Minor International, highlighted this as a crucial step in the company's ambitious growth trajectory within India. Originating in Thailand, Minor Hotels boasts a rich history, with its first hotel established in 1979, followed by the inception of the Anantara brand in 2001. Today, the group manages a vast portfolio of over 640 hotels, resorts, and branded residences spread across 63 countries worldwide. This expansion into Kolkata follows their recent entry into the Indian market with the Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur Hotel, which commenced operations in 2025, and reflects a broader objective to establish 50 properties across India within the next decade.
World Trade Centre Hub
The World Trade Centre Kolkata, strategically located in Sector V of Salt Lake City, is set to become the premier business and lifestyle destination in Eastern India. This ambitious development spans an impressive 11 acres and is meticulously designed as a mixed-use complex, featuring Grade A premium office spaces and high-end retail outlets. The Anantara Hotel will be a central component of this dynamic environment, enhancing its appeal to international businesses and discerning travelers. The vision behind WTC Kolkata, as articulated by Sanjay Saraf, Co-Chairman of Aryan Realty, is to significantly bolster the city's reputation as a vital regional center for both business activities and cultural exchange. This initiative promises to foster a new ecosystem where global commerce and refined hospitality seamlessly coexist, contributing to Kolkata's economic and social advancement.
