Mumbai Metro Expansion
A substantial investment of Rs 18,130.55 crore has been allocated for the approval of Mumbai Metro Line 5A, encompassing both Phase I and Phase II. This
extensive 34.21-kilometer corridor is slated to feature 19 stations, significantly enhancing public transportation in the metropolitan region. Phase I will connect Kapurbawdi to Dhamankar Naka in Bhiwandi, while Phase II will extend this vital link from Dhamankar Naka to Durgadi. Furthermore, the approved Line 5A will eventually stretch to connect Durgadi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, promising to benefit an estimated 69 lakh residents across Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar. Commuters can anticipate a considerable reduction in travel time, estimated to be between 40% and 50% once the project is fully operational.
Vidarbha Expressway Development
The state government has given the green light for the development of three critical expressway projects in the Vidarbha region, aiming to bolster connectivity and foster industrial growth. Instructions have been issued to establish definitive timelines for the Nagpur-Gondia, Bhandara-Gadchiroli, and Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressways. These projects are considered vital for improving transportation networks and stimulating economic activity throughout Vidarbha. The Nagpur-Gondia expressway is projected to span 162.57 kilometers with an estimated construction cost of Rs 19,582.19 crore. For this segment, Rs 3,162.18 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition. The Bhandara-Gadchiroli project, covering 94.241 kilometers, has received approval for Rs 931.15 crore for land acquisition. Additionally, the 204.799-kilometer Nagpur-Chandrapur expressway has been allocated Rs 2,353.94 crore for land acquisition purposes. These expressways are expected to be completed within a six-year timeframe.
Kumbh Mela Preparations
Preparations are underway for the significant Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027, with the approval of Phase II works amounting to Rs 1,063 crore. This substantial allocation is intended to ensure enhanced facilities and a smoother experience for the millions of devotees expected to attend. Key areas of development include improvements to parking infrastructure, water supply systems, and electricity provisions. Furthermore, the project encompasses the enhancement of health services, the establishment of robust solid waste management systems, and the implementation of a centralized control system to manage the large-scale event efficiently. The government has prioritized these works to ensure the Kumbh Mela is conducted with utmost care and preparedness.
